Lydia’s 5-star review: I'm so glad we visited this literal hole in the wall. These are maybe some of the best waffles I've had in my entire life. I don't have a single criticism for anything we ordered and I loved the little touches too, like frying the capers for better texture. The service was also top notch.

Lydia’s 5-star review: This was one of my favorite meals in the city. We stumbled a bit trying to find the front door but once we were in, we loved the ambiance. It's a perfect mix of classic and contemporary. Our server greeted us warmly and explained we were in town during spot prawn month! Naturally we ordered a spot prawn dish, drunken prawns. We also ordered the seafood tower, an Asian style carpaccio, and truffle fries. Everything was really delicious. They even asked if I had allergies which I appreciated since one of the seafood tower dishes had something I was allergic to in it. There was maybe some hesitation when we walked in with a 5 year old, but they had a coloring page and crayons and my daughter is used to nice restaurants and eating "grownup" food. I think they ended but being delighted with her good manners and enthusiasm for seafood. We had to ensure she saved some of the seafood tower for us! The meal was finished with a dessert sampler from our waiter. It had a delicious variety of delicate chocolate based treats in a tiny portion size perfect after a large meal. Overall, this is my favorite type of restaurant. Modern and global twists on classic food with good ingredients. If we visit Vancouver again, we'll definitely be back.
  • Lydia’s 5-star review: This spot was so good we visited twice! The first visit the order was wrong but it was so delicious I really didn't care. That's a first for me. The cafe itself is adorable and the flavors... I wish I had had time to visit a third time to try even more things.

Lydia’s 5-star review: I'm pretty picky about Italian food and I have no complaints about this spot. The service was excellent. No forced cheer here, just an efficient and effective waitress. Fresh ground pepper and Parmesan was offered for the pastas. My husband's truffle stuffed pasta was delicious. Despite having a cream sauce it did not taste too heavy. I had a seafood pasta and it was really nice. The salinity of the capers and anchovies really shone through and the pasta itself had a great chew to it. My daughter loved her ragu and we also had a kale Caesar which was a nice fresh start to the meal. I didn't love the wine he chose (a local wine) but we're probably spoiled being from NorCal. The restaurant itself is upstairs but a lot of them were in this spot. Made for a nice view and more quiet atmosphere. Definitely would revisit this spot.

Lydia’s 3-star review: This was an okay spot. The location was ideal as it is in the heart of Gastown and next to the steam clock. The food was just okay. My main complaint was we wanted this to be our first poutine of the trip. There was an option to "add pulled pork" so we did. What the menu and the waitress failed to specify was that that would mean they would slather the poutine with bbq sauce in addition to the gravy. The sauces competed and the entire thing did not work. That said, my husband liked his beers and it was oh so convenient.

Lydia’s 5-star review: I can't pass up a porchetta sandwich so we had to stop here between our adventures. The sandwich was perfect. My husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich which he really liked and my daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese on sourdough which was perfectly toasted. We asked them to make one with no onions and they obliged. The service was nice. The prices affordable. The food was fast and there was ample seating. The menu is pretty small, but if you like what they make, this is a perfect pit stop.

Lydia’s 5-star review: I love a pizza by the slice spot. I can't review much since we grabbed it to go and eat in our hotel room but I'll say the variety of slices we got were all great. The crust was nice and they had some non generic options which I appreciate. The service was also really nice. Perfect hotel room picnic food. We ate it so fast I forgot to photograph it!

Lydia’s 3-star review: This is a very okay spot. Nothing wrong but nothing mind blowing either, despite the crowd. The poutine had a nice gravy but the fries could have used a bit more cooking. The fish and chips were good and the fish was perfectly cooked and crispy. Again, totally okay food in a sea of standout spots in this neighborhood.

Lydia’s 5-star review: We loved this spot! We loved it so much that we actually had breakfast here twice and I still can't decide if I liked their salmon toast or breakfast sandwiches better. My husband liked their coffee and we also had the maple bacon donut and the mango passion fruit donut. I think the latter was my favorite on the sweets. It was a busy spot but the food came out pretty fast and there was ample seating. They had nice cold water available. The service was very nice (as is everyone I've met in Canada so far) and the food came out pretty fast and was well priced. Good people watching on the outdoor seating too.
