If you are looking for a rock solid, professional, trustworthy company to hire for help use Associated Heating! I had a serious problem with my 9 year old Carrier heater, including gas fumes and odors coming out of the exhaust. PGE came and shut it off and said to have it serviced.
The first two HVAC companies I called were unprofessional and quoted thousands of dollars for unnecessary work (re-routing the exhaust pipe) or a $7k for new unit. They then failed to follow up as promised.
It didn't make sense what they were saying because the fumes were never there before. Dud to their this and their lack of follow up, I decided to get one more quote and called Associated Heating. Rob and Steve came out with equipment, tested the fumes and determined there was a serious issue. Rob informed me the unit (which I hadn't purchased from him) was under warranty. He ordered all the parts from Carrier and Steve came out and fixed everything!
I'm so grateful I found this company! I almost spent thousands of dollars with shady, unprofessional HVAC companies.
Associated Heating is AWESOM! Do yourself a favor and DON'T call any other company.

We are renovating our kitchen and needed some HVAC work done to move a floor heater to under a cabinet as well as installing a new ceiling vent for our new stove hood.
I called Rod at Associated Heating and he came to look at the job. Rod immediately recognized that we had asbestos in our heater vent and told us we needed to get the asbestos removed before any work could proceed. With Rods recommendations we had the areas tested and ultimately had the asbestos removed. Once it was all cleared up Rod sent his guys out to do the HVAC work we needed. Steve and Jeff came out and did the work we needed in time for the next phase of our reno. They offered to come back to finish the job after the kitchen cabinets were installed. This was several weeks later and I never once was pressured to pay out the bill until the job was done. They eventually came to finish the job and I was able to settle my bill. These guys were very easy to work with and did a great job. If you are looking for any kind of HVAC work done, I highly recommend Associated Heating in San Francisco.

We had a very old HVAC unit, that we kept holding off to replace. On top of that, some of the pipes has abestos. It was just not a safe environment. I called a lot of HVAC companies to compare prices and services, and decided to go with Associated Heating of San Francisco. They seemed to offer the best deal, best solutions, and they even partner with a company to provide affordable asbestos removal and testing. Ultimately, I am very happy we chose Associated Heating of San Francisco. Rod has been wonderful throughout this entire experience from meeting him initally for the estimate, then him inspecting it after the work was done, and finally taking care of an issue we had with our Honeywell thermostat. And unfortunately, I can't remember their names, but the gentlemen who actually installed our HVAC were also pretty awesome and informative! Our heating system is so much better now. And I feel good knowing that if anything ever comes up with our HVAC, I can easily call Associated Heating of San Francisco for support.

We found Associated heating online and chose his company first for the previous reviews and second because of the impeccable customer service, attention to detail and local ownership.

Our project involved the removal of an old heating and duct system from our home in SF that ran through the entire house and was riddled asbestos. What a mess!

We obtained three quotes for the work needed to get a sense of the cost of the project. We were completely taken back by the huge differences in pricing for services between the companies. Rod's pricing was the best and he gave us very simple straight forward solutions to our situation. He didn't try and seel us extra crap etc... He is honest and local and they've been in business for a long time. He is very busy, but worth the wait. I highly recommed Associated Heating if you need work on your HVAC. Don't waste your time, just call these guys.

Rod and his team were amazing and did exactly what they said they would do in the timeframe given. If I ever need to call someone for HVAC services again, I know who I'll use.

Bryan came out to have a look at our air conditioning unit that wasn't working. He took a good amount of time and did a very thorough job. He explained to me everything that he was doing so I knew what was going on. He got the unit up and working with no problems and I'm very thankful he did because it's been a very hot summer. Although he was not the original installer, he did take time to inform me on warranty issues. I will definitely use these guys again and thank you Bryan for taking the time to do such a great job.

My expectations were exceeded.

All three men were no-nonsense, get the job done, and they started working immediately upon arrival. I was delighted with answers to my many questions - especially when we were inspecting the A/C unit on the roof. The job was estimated at 8-12 hours to replace a cracked pan. It was completed in 4.5 hours including cleanup. Moreover, the final bill was reduced by 40%. The next competing bid was 145% more with a 3-5 day estimate for completion. More important, Associated corrected installation work done poorly and inadequately by a competitor - and somehow overlooked by the building inspector.

My Trane XV95 furnace and air conditioner are now fully functional. They are installed in a San Francisco 1939 Mount Davidson home. Yes, A/C in San Francisco, in the fog belt, and I do use it. The unit also has the Clean Effects and Fresh Effects system, which Bryan showed me how to service.

I called Ron and also thanked him on behalf of the team. I would gladly recommend Associated to anyone in need of quality HVAC service.

The best service in San Francisco. These guys know how to repair a furnace, not just replace it. The newer equipment is often poorer quality than the older, so replacing a part or two and tuning up an older unit is far less expensive than ripping it out and starting over often. Also more environmentally conscious. If you want to go more efficient, a newer model may be best, and you'll get the best advise and price with this company. I've had many HVAC companies work for my construction firm and rental units... some good, some really bad. Highly recommended.

What a fantastic business! I called yesterday with a complaint of a broke AC at our office. Jeff came out early this morning and diagnosed the problem. By early afternoon, we had a working AC unit and all their work is guaranteed! Will definitely recommend to my friends and family in the Bay Area. Thanks guys!

So I'm cheating a bit because they're still working downstairs while I type this review but I'll update it if anything changes.

Did lots of research and compared the top 5 HVAC companies on Yelp for a new furnace/ductwork. Associated Heating was not the cheapest and for the same job, ended up in the middle of the pack.

However, Rich's knowledge and professionalism won me over. The other top two HVAC companies on Yelp were great to get estimates from and I have nothing negative to say about them (I am sure they could have done a good job). However, Rich's knowledge and professionalism was just THAT good. He made several recommendations for my job in anticipation of and hopes of avoiding future issues.

The installers are more professional than average. I can't really explain it in a PC way, but you'll just have to trust me on this one - These are the guys you want installing your new furnace/doing work in your home. It's clear that the professional attitude carries from the top down through this company and I would recommend these guys to anyone in a heartbeat.

Save your time and just go with Associated - You'll see why they're rated a perfect 5 stars on Yelp. Book early - Going into the winter months these guys book up to 3 months in advance.

Side note: All HVAC companies I talked to contract asbestos work to Synergy. The benefit of going through Associated is that they deal with Synergy directly (scheduling/payment) and take responsibility for Synergy's work.

Perfect service and experience! Great communication, explained how everything works for our A/C and heat, what I needed to do for maintenance, was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Plus totally reasonable fee. Doesn't get much better then this. I will continue using these guys for all things HVAC!!
