Christina was a great server. Enjoyed some chips & salsa w drinks on the patio.
Loved the chips, & salsa was good, mild, flavorful. We enjoyed our drinks, they really hit the spot. We recommend the anticiado and velvet cactus. Velvet cactus came with a black salt that I couldn't get enough of.
Nice weather & good town views.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 9, 20241 check-in
Walking up to the place I noticed it was on the corner and corner places usually have any unique situation as far as their design layout so I was interested to see what they offered. She's an amazing foodie and yelper as well, so it's nice to have an elite on my arm.
The front door was very impressive just like you were in Mexico. They have large bright colored doors to welcome you in and I noticed that outside they had a eating area that was streetside and looked very comfortable, but very little shade and it was very hot that day so we decided to go inside.
We started off with a Camino style nachos, and we got the small plate which actually had quite a bit on it. I have to say at this point be prepared because everything comes out has beautiful eye appeal. And that I appeal was followed up with incredible taste. so happy to see such detail in their care. The seasonings and the presentation really spoke of the true flavors of Mexico. Had fried tortilla halves with black beans, pico de gallo Oaxaca cheese and avocado creamer drizzled over the top. Vibrant and vivid colors in all of it.
We gladly shared our plates. I ordered the pork belly which had crispy, pork belly, cilantro, slaw, peanuts, pineapple, pico, salsa, Matcha pickled onions, and was served with Charro beans. I would be proud to serve a beautiful platter like this to anyone at my home.
Looking around, I noticed that it was decorated like a classy eatery with bright colors, painting of Kahlo of course, and nice paintings on the wall and things to dry your eyes to the attention that they wanted you to feel you were not still in the states. I noticed half the side to the back. They had a wonderful slightly shaded area for eating outside as well, which is really nice and it was being used.
The bar was amazing. They had probably the largest selection of tequila. I've seen anywhere in a bar. And a lot of the business was in there in the afternoon having their afternoon lunches, which are gladly serve there as well. We were quickly taken to our table and brought menus.
I believe my daughter had the Carnitas. It was Cazo braised, pork, grilled poblano, onions, guacamole, pineapple pico, served with cilantro, rice, refried beans, and corn tortillas. Again, a stunning presentation. We were taking pictures like crazy to appreciate everything again later.
For those who are learning ... The Mexican restaurants in Texas started adding more ingredients preferred by Texans to accommodate their tastes, resulting in what we call today "Tex-Mex."
A very pleasant eating experience, indeed.Helpful 3Thanks 3Love this 5Oh no 0 - Ray R.Fairfield, CA611022Jul 20, 2024Updated review
Jose and Octavo definitely take their jobs seriosly! These two Macho Men are still learning how to soften their approach on servicing patrons with a smile. Let's face it most Macho Men don't give you a warm and fuzzy. Right?
My first read on the Bar Carino Macho Men seemed quite cold at first. My dear friend and I had fun peeling the Macho Man attitude to finally getting some wonderful smiles from the Bar Carino Macho Men that serve the patrons at the bar.
If you want to get the warm and fuzzy feeling , I reccomended getting seated outside the bar.
The food and the ambience are great at this Tex Mex restaurant!

Best Regards,Jun 28, 2024Previous reviewAnyone going out on a Friday night to a restaurant bar in walnut Creek should expect hospitable service. Right? Not here! THIS PLACE SUCKS!
Jose at the bar, with more than a few tats, made our experience terrible. Over the top attitude and no regard for customer service. And in the end, politely served us our bill expecting something in return for horrible service? We politely obliqued but only out of pity.
He's bad for business. We were a kind as we could be. No attitude or anything like the attitude we were given.
The food here is awesome but we have no interest in ever returning. - Jun 22, 2024
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great service!
Went here to celebrate a surprise birthday and had a great time! We had a private room in the back. The appetizers were great as well as all our main dishes! The drinks kept flowing!
I definitely recommend this place and will be returning again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I had high expectations coming here after reading the reviews and having this place saved. Maybe it was what we ordered, but food was okay.
Food/Drink:
-Tacos de Camaron (Shrimp Tacos): 4/5
Pretty good tacos, but price point was a bit high for 3 shrimps on some slaw and regular tortilla
$19 for 2 tacos (You can add an extra taco for $6)
-Tacos de Pescado (Fish Tacos): 3/5
These were just okay. I expected "crispy" fish, but I wouldn't order again.
$18 for 2 tacos (You can add an extra taco for $6)
-Pork Belly Taco: 2/5
This one was disappointing. It was just too much grease. I know it's pork belly but maybe if it was cut up into smaller chunks and making it a bit crispy. The potential is there but I wouldn't order again.
-Mango Mojito: 5/5
I'd be back just for these! So good!
The host was a young girl who was soo nice! Our server was also great, no issue at all there. The problem was with the kitchen wait time. We waited over an hour for the 6 tacos. The kitchen lost the ticket, which I understand things happen and the manager also apologized so appreciated that.
The decor and vibe was super cool in the restaurant! I loved it!
Overall, I would give this place another try and try something else on the menu. There was a lot of other options that sounded good.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2 - Jul 6, 20241 check-in

It pains me to write this because I really want to like this place. The location is superb. The margaritas are great. The menu looks like it has everything I've ever wanted from a Mexican sit-down place.
Alas. I have been here multiple times since I live close by. I really really want to like this place. But every time the food falls flat and I'm so heartbreakingly disappointed by what should be a slam dunk.
First experience was ordering takeout. Like I said, I live super close and I love some enchiladas, so I got myself the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Easy pick up experience and I was on my merry way. The flavor however was...only ok. It felt like there wasn't any depth to the flavors and I was really surprised at how meh everything tasted. Ok, so maybe this dish isn't a slam dunk but there are plenty of other options. I'm not ready to give up hope.
First time for in-person dining, I brought a friend for late lunch on the patio. Our server was a gem, recommended the flautas, brought us margs quickly, and checked on us enough without being pushy. However, the red salsa that accompanied our chips tasted so watery and mild. I was sad, but ok, not the end of the world. Maybe the local taste is more mild than mine. The flautas came and again I was just underwhelmed by the food. It was pretty tasteless. My friend's taco plate was the same. Ok ok maybe next time we need to specify we would like heat. I'm still unwilling to let this place go, but my hope is now dwindling.
The next time I brought a friend just for chips&guac& margaritas. Should be easier and we can enjoy this place for its strengths. Unfortunately. I swear the guac is just mashed avocados. Decent portion but....I don't taste any onion. There seems to be absolutely no jalapenos or chiles of any kind. And barely any lime or salt. I will say, once we all tasted it and agreed it was plain, we added the salsa Verde to the bowl and it was much better. But I don't want to have to fix my food.
So all in all, I want to be a regular but I cannot keep paying for and eating plain Mexican food that I would not myself make. I'm glad to see this place is busy and well-loved by many. I want it to succeed. Please add more spice to everything. Salsa Verde is pretty good and tortilla chips are fresh if a bit thick. Maybe not all hope is lost but I will definitely take a break before trying again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Ashleigh, we appreciate your informative feedback. We try to find a balance between offering spicy dishes and keeping our menu approachable for all. If you're looking for more kick, I suggest the Camarones shrimp tacos or the Skirt Ranchera. We also have a homemade habanero hot sauce! Hope to see you back again to give these a try!

I went here with a friend to celebrate my birthday. We had a celebratory drink and the food was amazing. It was very flavorful and filling. The ambiance was perfect and the fish tacos were delicious! The service was great and they were really attentive. I was my first time here and really enjoyed the experience. I look forward to coming back here the next time I am in the area.

Bar Camino in Walnut Creek is a fantastic spot for delicious Mexican cuisine. During my visit, I enjoyed a refreshing strawberry margarita that was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. I also ordered a burrito, which was impressively large and packed with flavorful ingredients. The highlight of my meal, however, was the garlic fries - they were incredibly crispy and seasoned to perfection. With its great food and vibrant atmosphere, Bar Camino is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Mexican fare.

My husband and I came here for Sunday brunch. Friendly hostess. We were promptly seated and chose outdoors in their covered patio.
They had a brunch menu with food & drinks. It wasn't until after we ordered that we saw other tables had the full drink menu book. Perhaps I would've changed my drink option if I'd seen the drink book first.
My black basil was tasty with the right amount of sweetness.
I saw someone else get the chile relleno and it looked so good! I ordered it.
It's deep fried! Never had it like that before they're usually a shallow fry.
It was gooey inside and the cheese pull was real. Nice crunch on the exterior. The birria was pretty good too, got it as an add-on. We also got an order of the quesabirria. A bit steep at $19 for 2 pieces. I know we're in the bay so it's expected. My husband got the green chilaquiles. He seemed to enjoy them but wished the egg wasn't scrambled and instead a fried egg with runny yolk.
Our server Armando was friendly, smiley, and kind.
For a Latin spot, I expected them to play Latin music, maybe even Latin Jazz. Just something Latin.
They played like the Jackson 5 instead and don't get me wrong, I love some of their songs but it just didn't match the vibe here. I made a comment to Armando about the music and he lmk the music choice is up to the bartender and someone else...so it's whatever they choose.
Interesting.
A few minutes later I heard a Latin song come on. The first during our entire time there and we were almost to the end. Armando came by and I asked if he'd said something and he said yes. I was like yay cool...the song ended and it was back to the stuff they were playing.
So I got 1 song. Lol.
Overall a cute spot but maybe I wouldn't sit in the same spot next to the succulents. I wasn't even trying to smell them. The smell came to me and it was like mildew. Idk if it's all the cobwebs on the plants or what but the smell wasn't pleasant. I debated on whether we should move but my husband said he couldn't smell it so then I started to doubt myself but nah, it was there.
I would come back to try their other items and see their full cocktail menu.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
