Excellent food, even better service. Lily is the best! You can't go wrong on the food menu, and the mixed drinks always hit the spot. 10/10!

3 1/2. The Reuben was outstanding. And I loved the choice of sides. I had the side salad and it was very good. Fresh veggies. The French dip was disappointing. I felt like the meat was tough, very chewy. Great beer selection great service great atmosphere and easy parking. Will definitely try it again just hopefully the food is a little bit better next time.

Let me start by saying I really, really want a bar to be successful in this space. I've been a couple times now and like the way they've done things inside. I like that it's more of a bar than a restaurant. They have TVs so you can catch a game. The parking lot is a huge plus too. The biggest negative about the space is how loud it gets. Like excessively loud.

The food is excellent. I've had the shrooms appetizer which is amazing! I've also had the Reuben and the city pork sandwich. It is a delicious fried pork tenderloin. The mac n cheese is also tasty. Really everything I've tried so far has been good! I encourage folks to go try it out and give this place a chance and try to not associate it with the previous bar.

      First to Review

Opening Friday, March 3, 2017...I was lucky enough to be a part of the soft opening this week and I can't wait to go back and taste more of the menu.

First things first. City Shrooms. It's a mushroom, cheesy, sausage and jalapeno dish of goodness. Served with crostini, you slather on the creamy mushroom dip and it's a blend of salty, cheesy, flavorful funghi that you keep going back to. It's a must-order.

The quinoa and kale salad is protein laden, bright and filling. Not to mention healthy as all get out, if that's what you're looking for. The burgers and the Fire Chicken are what you're looking for in a great tavern sandwich. It's full of flavor, without all the pomp and circumstance. Both are served with hand cut, fresh french fries. There is also a grilled cheese sandwich on the menu --with american cheese, on white Wonder Bread. It's a time machine back to your mom's kitchen.

Save room for the signature PB&J dessert. In an homage to their location, it's straight up peanut butter and strawberry jam, griddled in melted butter, served a la mode. To die for.

I'm glad to see a friendly, neighborhood spot in this space that has been overlooked in the past. But no more. This is going to be a go-to place for a burger, a ballgame or a beer. Or, for a great dinner, downtown, just far enough away from the chaos of the Short North.

After reading about this place opening in the failed Cray/Factory space and seeing on the "Hot New Business" list on Yelp, we decided to give it a go.

I went to Cray once, it was so-so. I never made it to it's post Restaurant Impossible resurrection as Factory on 4th.

This space may be cursed as I fear the City Tavern may face a similar fate.

We got the Bavarian pretzel sticks. They were room temperature and more bread-like than the dense chewy center you'd expect from a soft pretzel.

I got the City Burger - portobello, gouda cheese and a drizzle of truffle oil. The burger seemed like a preformed patty, too perfectly round to be hand pressed and the texture was a bit rubbery. The Portobellos were good but the truffle oil took over the entire flavor profile. I got a side of four onion rings. Four. Onion. Rings.

The real sting was the bill. For two waters, the pretzels and two sandwiches, the bill was over $40.

Went to City Tavern for a casual dinner and it was pretty busy for a Monday evening. The bartender told is to have a seat wherever. She came to us quickly and we soon realized she was the only server in the entire place! She handled it so well and we had a great time. Vicky holds City Tavern together under pressure. Awesome place

Every time I have gone to city Tavern it has been a very pleasant experience. Wasn't waitstaff and decent time waiting for food/drinks. This last time was one for the review! Charlie not only helped our table from The get go but checked in very regularly. Suggested helpful menu ideas as well as drink tips. I would go back to this establishment simply to interact with the sarcastic waiter!
