I was in from out of town and worried about my rear brakes. Golden got me in when I called and couldn't have been nicer checking out and diagnosing the problem. Super confident in them and if I was in town would definitely use them. Thanks guys!

For about two years the exhaust/muffler on my Camry has been off the rear bracket and dangling down, banging like crazy if I go over a bump. My regular Camry mechanic said that the exhaust system had somehow been banged out of alignment and he couldn't fix it, short of whole new system. Told me to go to a muffler specialty place, but they said it needed welding they couldn't do. Finally someone put me onto these guys on Folsom Street. I drove up without an appointment, they immediately put it up on the lift, saw the problem, told me they would fix it there and then. 45 minutes and $120 bucks later, issue fixed perfectly. I feel like an idiot for waiting so long for such a simple thing.

Messaged about a quote and received a reply within a minute! They had multiple times slots to come in and I can within an hour and they helped me out right away. Took less than 1 hour to get a muffler installed. Great price and service

Bring your car here for brakes.
I initially came in on a cold and rainy Wednesday night about five minutes before closing and was imitatively welcomed with a friendly smile. Five stars for friendliness.
We discussed my breaks and decided I could drop it off the next day. The price I was given for both front and rear brakes and rotors was far, far below what I originally estimated. I'm still going to spend the money set aside though and buy an XBOX 360.
Fast, friendly, & affordable. This is my break shop.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Pulled into lot and was immediately put onto lift to diagnose and fix muffler issue.
Joe was very accommodating and friendly. He walked me under the car to show me where the problem was and to show me the part he was going to replace with. Not long after, part was replaced and car was back to sounding unlike a motorcycle.
Only complaint, and reason for 1 less star, is that he described the part he showed being $220 but I can find the exhaust flex pipe for under $100 new. If I had the time I should have bought the part myself and had them weld it on, but for being in a hurry and them taking me last minute I would certainly go back again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ahmed K.Sacramento, CA810730Feb 7, 2018
These guys are rockstars. Found them on yelp and drove all the way to SF for their services twice because they are worth it. Trustworthy, VERY reasonable, and very fast. What more can you ask for from a mechanic. I will be back and will continue to refer people to them.

Exhaust bracket dangling off the back of my car. Went to shop near my house and without even looking at it said it would be a couple days. Took my car to Golden Auto, they put it up on the lift right away, said it was an easy fix, did it in five minutes and didn't even charge me!
Only a minor fix but the service was fast and friendly. I won't hesitate to come back if/when something worse happens to my car.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I had my 2017 accessible wheelchair Chevy silverado LTZ pick up truck stock exhaust system changed. when we went there we were just going to get an estimate for a flowmaster super 44 custom dual exhaust system. the price was $467 after the estimate we thought that we had to make an appointment but they told us they it will take two hours to install it when we came back it was a solid install and the sound is like a full truck sound and the increased horse power by 20% golden auto is a great place the people there is very professional and accommodating we would recommend this place if you want your exhaust system to be changed.

Clean shop. Easy to get to. Enough room in shop for you to drive right in and park. Estimate and work performed in less than 1 hour. Simple transaction without the upsells that you expect at franchise type of muffler shops.
I had a catalytic converter installed. Parts and labor $200- can't beat it. I would definitely recommend again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Roy N.San Francisco, CA2367487214Nov 16, 2011Updated review
Apologies to everyone that has sent me compliments and messages lately...with all the craziness of my alzheimer's/dementia father, I've really gotten behind in my Yelps and am still trying to get caught up. It's really been quite a year.
In the meantime, I have a review update for a place I went to again today. As I mentioned in my previous review, I have been coming to Golden Auto Muffler for the longest time and they have done work on so many of my cars over the last two decades. Nowadays, this is the only place I will go to.
I tried going to other muffler/exhaust places in the past and had been grossly disappointed. When I say grossly disappointed, I really mean it as I have experienced it all...burned rear valance from inexperienced welding, unfair pricing policies, and buffoon staff making snide remarks and fooling around (it's high school auto shop all over again...wait a minute, it's probably the same guys!)
Anyway, none of that happens here. No, this place is the exact opposite. These guys are so pleasant, so professional, and so capable. Honestly, every time I've come here, I've thought to myself that this is one of the best run businesses I have come across in a long time, regardless of industry. There are so many reasons why I feel this way...extremely knowledgeable and cool staff (great team!), skilled techs/installers, use of quality parts/products (another way lesser places increase their profit margin), and super fair pricing. If you need something simple, you will get exactly what you need and they will not try to sell you a whole new exhaust.
Every time I 've been here, I have seen people getting big things done as well as people who just came in off the street with something minor. Each time, I have been amazed at how inexpensive and fair their pricing for those simple repairs has been. Even today, a young girl came in and was quoted $60. She wasn't talking to me, but when she asked if that was a good price, I spoke up, "Oh yeah!!!!" :)
Earlier this year, they did both cats (replaced the catalytic convertors) on one of my Corvettes. Today, I had to get another cat, this time for another of my cars since my mechanic (not here) had blown it out on his test drive while diagnosing a problem that he recently repaired.
Joe Lin greeted me again the instant I arrived and always, he was super cool and professional. Truly a great guy. Quoted pricing was extremely fair and once again, I was super happy to hear that they use Magnaflow as a supplier for their catalytic convertors. Joe is also extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed to fit this factory, but sometimes difficult car.
The technicians and installers are extremely talented too. Each time I've been here, they have really impressed me with their skill...they have elevated it to an art form. They all real good guys and everyone here is into cars and is a car guy. I was also really happy that the guy who did the work on my black Corvette last time was the same one that was doing the work on my car this time. Don't know his name, but he's really great!
Oh and as I mentioned in my previous review, when they install a catalytic convertor, they install it in a way so that the smog tech can see the numbers on it when you bring the car in for your bi-annual smog inspection. Lesser places often couldn't care less and sometimes orient it facing a bad way when they weld it in so that the numbers cannot be seen from the side or below. If this occurs, you will not pass the visual portion of your smog test and will have to bring it back to the shop for more work. That won't happen here.
I wish every shop or business was run like this. Of all the reviews I've done this year, if I had to pick one business that I thought excelled in every way more than anyone else, this would be the one. If only Yelp had a six star category, this place would be in it.
If you need anything muffler/exhaust related, there is no doubt in my mind where you should go, no need to look anywhere else...this is the place!Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0Aug 3, 2011Previous review* Embarassed...I just realized I previously posted this review under
the wrong name. Should have been Golden, not Discount. Sorry!!!
Been coming here for the longest time. Over the years, I've lost track of how many cars I've brought here. The first time was back in the stone ages when I used to own an Alfa. Since then, this has always been the first place I think of when I need anything exhaust-related and Mike has always been good to me.
Last year, I was driving my black Vette when I heard an odd rattle in my left side exhaust. The rattle turned out to be the loose substrate of my left catalytic convertor. As I accelerated, the pressure finished it off and the loose internal pieces temporarily plugged the back end of the convertor. A huge backfire quickly took care of the blockage and suddenly the car sounded much healther and felt a lot faster, the result of a self-gutted catalytic convertor. The car ran so well that I just made a mental note to myself to remember it the next time the smog test came up. A month or two later, I was blasting down the road one late night as the car suddenly felt even faster and became even louder. Little metallic particles in my exhaust pipe told me that the other cat (convertor) had died. The car felt bionic so I didn't really give it much thought until it failed it's smog test big time.
Since my temporary registration (which was worthless since even though I paid $50, I still got a ticket for expired tags while parked) expired 01/31, I brought the car back from my dad's house in Hercules (now just car storage) and stopped by. I found out that Mike was on vacation, but two really great guys were working there that impressed the heck out of me. Their names were Joe Lin and Anthony and they were so nice and professional. They listened to my description and knew exactly what I needed. They quoted me a really good price and I asked them what brand the convertor was, worried that it would be some cheap off brand. They told me Magnaflow and I told them I would be there bright and early the next day.
I brought the car in this morning and due to horrible traffic, didn't make it before they opened so there were a few cars ahead of me. Joe and Anthony were both there again and they were absolutely wonderful and so helpful, telling me all the local cafes and coffee shops in the area. They told me to relax and go to one and promised that they would call me as soon as it was done. Being a car guy, I intentionally came back a little early, just so I could see the car in the air and the two of them came right up to me to see if they could help. They were so nice that I felt bad...wasn't trying to rush them, I just wanted to see them working on it. Anyway, I went for another walk and true to their word, they called me the instant that it was done.
Upon returning to the car, I looked underneath and liked what I saw. The only thing that I thought was a bit odd was the orientation of the converters. I thought to myself that I would have installed them oriented another 90 degrees for the convertors to lay flat and be parallel for a touch more ground clearance. I didn't say anything because I figured there had to have been a reason.
Anyway, with the two new convertors, the car passed the tailpipe sniffer test with flying colors. Not only that, but as the smog tech crawled under the car with a flashlight, he came back up all happy and told me that the person who installed the convertors was really smart. I asked him why and he said that the way the convertors were installed, you could easily see the EO numbers (smog exemption order) on the convertor that he needed to input into the computer to pass the visual. He said that if the convertors had been installed the other way, it would have caused me a lot of trouble the next time I needed to smog it and that the installer really did me a favor by doing it the way he did.
Needless to say, I was impressed. I had left the muffler shop thinking that Joe and Anthony were fantastic, but now I know that the installers are top notch too. I knew I needed new cats to pass smog, but was worried that they would be the equivalent of a hand over one's mouth as you try to run up a hill. The proverbial potato in the tailpipe. Thankfully, that was not the case since they installed performance convertors. The car has a cool new exhaust note now and it is fun to rev it up as you go through the gears. So much fun that I was actually sad when I had to park it and bring the new car back home to SF so that I could take my elderly dad to Kaiser. Oh well, at least now I have another toy that is fixed, legally registered, and waiting for my next fun drive.
So there you have it...the most pleasant and professional muffler shop in the bay area (if not the world) and excellent installers too. If you need any exhaust work, this is definitely the place.
