Jang Mo jib is a decent Korean restaurant/ karaoke bar if you want a full meal at night. They're not expensive 12-20$ per person sans drinks. The service was mediocre but I was greeted and given a table right away. The food quality was mediocre but it did satisfy my Korean craving. I had better quality budijigae ( pork spicy cheese ramyum) hot pot and bbq beef. It is one of the few restaurants that open til late (1am), so I'll definitely come back if I feel like a late night Korean hot pot.
Atmosphere: They play loud Korean music but it's much more tolerable than some snack bars in downtown. They have a casual atmosphere and the servers aren't the nicest, and the environment is definitely not the cleanest.
However, price and accessibility combined I am satisfied. I would love to try their karaoke one night!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Peter K.New York, NY89121363Dec 6, 2019
Great Korean restaurant in downtown Vancouver. Not a huge selection choice on the menu. But everything we had was really good. Not exactly cheap, but not too expensive either. This place is not bad, but I wish there were more competition of Korean places around here.

Server weren't really paying attention when we needed refills on beverages, nor showed us the entire menu. Food was great, just wished they had a bit more on their selections for side dishes l.

I've had a Korean craving for over two weeks and finally convinced (and by that, I mean begged profusely) my girlfriend to go with me.
I liked that the tables are big enough to fit all the food without having to play tetris with your plates, dishes etc. I also like the covering on them so they're not sticky/gross and are very easy to clean.
The food was delicious, even beyond what I was expecting. I heard rumors that the quality has gone downhill so I was hoping for something better than average but not outstanding but I was wrong - it was really delicious. We had some really mediocre Korean out in Coquitlam so I was trying to rectify it and it did just that. My girlfriend said it was much better than that one and that she'd happily come back (which says a lot because she's a bit picky hehe).
We got the blood sausage which I had been craving for months! There's only three Korean restaurants I know who make it and so I always get it when they have it on the menu. IT WAS SO GOOD. In fact, I got a medium order just so I can take the rest home for leftovers!
The tofu soup was delicious, flavorful, and just very tasty. They didn't skimp on tofu, meat, or kimchi. It was really satisfying.
The jap chae left much to be desired for one reason: they skimp on meat. They'll pile on the veggies but give you a few shreds of beef which is really disappointing. For $20, they can afford to put more meat on it! But aside from that, it was cooked really well and was very flavorful.
The kimchi was too fresh and wasn't fermented enough. Other than that, I really enjoyed the other 3 side dishes.
I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 simply because the service wasn't the best. They weren't awful by any means, but they were just incredibly busy so it was difficult to find someone when you needed something. So it was a pain getting someone to take our order, bring us a jug of tea, give us our bill etc. Other than that, everything else was excellent and I'd come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - C. Nearby Korean restaurant Sura was packed with a crazy line up on a weekday afternoon. We wanted to try the $15 lunch set menu that is very popular at Sura. However, my friend and I did not have the time to wait so we decided to try this restaurant instead. I have been here a couple times before. We ended up ordering spicy tofu and seafood soup and bool go gee.
Food was decent. We picked medium spicy for the soup and it arrived as described. Just enough heat with each sip. Decent amount of seafood (shrimp, clams) mixed with the soft tofu. The beef dish was alright. Beef was mixed with lots of veggies. I found the portion to be small for $15. There were also four side dishes which were alright and was not that memorable.
Service was barely acceptable. We were seated at a table, had placed our order and were sipping tea when the server asked us to move to another table to make way for a larger group. We agreed and moved our stuff to another table. Food arrived but the server never checked up on us during the whole meal. There was one server for the whole restaurant and there was one large group plus a few smaller tables. We ended up walking up to the cash register to pay the bill. Bill came just under $30 with tip.
Overall, very average meal. The prices are the same as the dinner menu prices. They should follow Sura and come up with comparable lunch set menus.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren L.Koto City, Japan50814964910May 31, 2015
Jang Mo Jib has changed over the years. Now, it's a full grown Korean restaurant that still offers the same good old items that they've always served, but it's just busier and it's just busier. Over the years, we've seen Korean restaurants sprout from one or two BBQ joints to soup houses to street style food. Now there is a whole gamut of styles that showcase what Korean cuisine has to offer. Jang Mo Jib was at the forefront of this change and it's evolution is certainly welcome. My farourites were always the soups. This time I came for the Doe Jee Bo Ssahm which they described as "Cooked, sliced pork tenderloin and belly, served with Chinese cabbage to wrap, homemade sauces to dip, and special "Bo Ssahm" kimchee which contains oysters".
I'm giving this place a 4 star review, even there were some flaws with staff communication, or lack of staff. Our table and the table next to us got served our tea, and food, but they wouldn't bring us the cutlery that we needed to eat with. We had to scrounge them from other tables and when asked "what we're doing" we explained with their acknowledgment being a simple grunt. Indeed they must be busy and understaffed. Maybe training in customer service would benefit this to give them 5 stars.
Service - as described above - 2 stars unattentive service.
Cleanliness - 4 stars - staff were good at cleaning up and overall appearance was satisfactory.
Food - 4 stars - Everyone loved their food. My dish Doe Jee Bo Sahm, the meet was thickly sliced (compared to their competitor accross the street which offers a more refined version).
Ambiance - 4 stars - lots of TV screens with Korean music videos and hot chicks.
Bustling busy ambiance, loud chatter and the aroma of BBQ flustered about. Yes, I said flustered about.
I would suggest to also try one of the other Jang Mo Jibs to see the variety and taste differences. If you like Korean food, this is just the beginning.
There's lots to like and lots to eat in this town. $$$Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tanvi S.Vancouver, Canada67153205Mar 26, 2017
Nice little spot recommended by a friend for lunch. I had the bee bim bapb for the first time and it was lovely on the stone ball. You can have extra side dishes and i really loved the roasted potatoes. The only thing was i felt the dish skimped on meat and the portion size. The service was friendly and because it is a karaoke bar they had k pop playing. I would be interested in visiting again.

I have been coming here for a long time, since their first location opened on Kingsway more than 15 years ago. Basically, I think this location makes better food than all the other location but the service is the worst, crowded and under staffed. This time I didn't get water till 15min after I sat down. I usually get the seafood Soondubu but I got the spicy Naengmyun this time just to be different. It was pretty bad - I would give one and half star. It didn't have any mustard sauce in it and it is a must!! Perhaps they forgot bc they were so busy. Anywho, their tofu soup and gamjatang are pretty reliable and would give three and half. I also always liked their kimchee, and dumplings are pretty decent. The lesson is do not get naengmyun!

We come here quite often since it's one of the few places open late night In downtown Vancouver if you don't want fast food. The service is just usually not that great unfortunately but, we always come back for the food. I think my husband and I have literally tried everything on the menu. I usually just get my Gali tang ( short rib soup ? They give you a good portion of short rib and the soup broth is good. I wish they'd change their banchan once in a while because they always have the same potatoes kimchi and seaweed thing... It gets boring after a while.

Place was pretty empty. Service was mediocre. I got the mild seafood beef tofu soup. Flavorful and just enough spice. Also got the pan fried dumplings, which were also good but a bit pricey at almost $10. I'd probably go back for the soup again but not really excited to try anything else.
