One of those nights that one just craves for sushi and one does not want to travel far. My daughter found this place and we decided to give it a try. The ambiance is really nice and warm with music play safely in the background. They were short-staffed so we had to wait for some time but the host apologized for the wait. They were super courteous so we don't mind. The food was pretty good. My kids had 2 x 10 piece sashimi and they liked it. The fish was fresh and both servings had different varieties. The rolls were typical but good. My favorite was their fish oden. It was nice, warm, flavorful with different types of fishcakes. The unagi-don was fresh, delish and flavorful, not the frozen type you would have gotten elsewhere. The best chicken karaage I have ever had. I'll definitely come back again.

We came right when they opened. So there was plenty of parking, it definitely filled up once we were done with our meal though. The lot is actually kind of small so maybe you should get here earlier. I'd tried the previous night to get a reservation but they said we didn't need one. Showed up and they asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, but they were able to seat us right away. My brother and I brought our mom here for mother's day lunch.
The interior is super nicely decorated! Loved the lighting and the vibes, giant windows as well.
They were quick to take our order, however the kitchen got inundated by a bunch of online orders. My mom's chicken udon came out after 15 minutes along with miso soup for me and my brother.
It was about 30 minutes later that we got our chirashi. Maybe they need. Better system for balancing online orders and in-restaurant orders. I don't have any insight for that. Theg did give us edamame because of the long wait, so that was nice.
My mom really liked the udon, the meat quality was good and she liked the broth.
Edamame is good, it's just edamame haha.
Loved the mini omakase chirashi. Everything was light and fresh. Even with the 45 minute wait, I'd definitely come back for this dish! Pretty filling for me!
My brother had the omakase don and also said he'd come back and it was worth the wait.
The waitstaff were all great!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jul 7, 2023
November 2, 2022: Went to this city land mark of a restaurant after work one night to drown my recent woes in SSMS. I had driven past this place for years and avoided it because it looked so old outside even after the remodel a few years ago, but I had to admit that people return to local places for a reason.
I walked in disturbed and walked out with the goal that Sushi Sake and More Sakai (SSMS) dose to you based on the large portions they give you with a traditional presentation. No FUSION Sushi here.
I can't say much for the service because they had two servers for a packed place but I it was attentive enough for me to knock out $50 worth of food and drink. Disregard the 1970 all wood decore and go in for the food and prices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 30, 2023
A cute cozy place! I love the aesthetics and decor. They have quite some tables :) we didn't have a problem with waiting for a table.
The food was average. I think it was fun to try but wouldn't go back again. It's a little pricey compared to my usual go to sushi place. Flamango roll was unique and the other two I had didn't taste that much different than other places.
We also got udon (not pictured) for $17 and the broth was too heavy on msg and the portion of noodles were tiny.
Our total came out to be around $110 for 4 people (3 rolls, 1 udon, and 2 cheesecake).
Cheesecakes we're around $6-7 each
Rolls $17-$18Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 5, 2023
Came here as a party of 3 on a Friday night so we were expecting to wait for a while, and we did wait for around 30 minutes- but that's not why I'm giving Kaisen Don 3 stars.
We were seated at one of the tatami area. Everything was clean, the decorations were nice and service was good. They were understaffed but everyone who took care of us was friendly and professional. The 3 stars have nothing to do with the service - it was the food. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't worth the wait time.
Chicken Karaage was dry- not tender nor juicy like karaages should be.
Shoyu ramen - tasted decent, but $15.99 for noodles, 1 piece of charsiu & 1 egg? Overpiced.
Rainbow Don was good- had a good selection of fish and it was fresh.
Salmon Ikura Don - it was good and fresh, however, reading the menu again + looking at my picture whilst writing this review, I realized that the sushi omelette/tamago was missing from my don. Too late for me now, but if you get a salmon ikura don- double check that you get your tamago.
Lastly, there was one thing that I found shady: Hot tea was $3 a cup (was not on the menu & didn't know the price until I saw the bill), and when it first came, it was genmaicha. However, when it came time for a refill, it was barley tea. Was the $3 not for the tea bag or the teaspoon of loose tea leaves? Why am I getting a refill of a much cheaper tea? Do you think that people won't be able to tell? 2/3 of us are Asian and we know our teas - unacceptable.
Will not return, do not recommend.Helpful 8Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 4 - Berlyn D.Milpitas, CA321107128Feb 6, 2024
My friend and I check this out since it's close to his house. The place is clean and neat. The staff seated us right away and explained entering to us.
The food is really good, the ramen sounds good since it was a rainy day. The soup is tasty and it's not salty and the chashu is delicious and not enough fat which is good.
I had the Lion king Roll, I devour it instantly I was hungry and delicious.
My friend had Dragon and for him thinks it's great. We both have croquettes, tasty, hot and chewy.
The experience was amazing, price is right. Will come back.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 11, 2023
We ordered the Omakase Don and Sushi combo B with really high expectations for the quality and taste of fish based off prior yelp reviews. We were quite disappointed with the lack of freshness and skimpy portion sizes(for the price point). The fish was also warm, which is also a first for me. I believe there are many many other places that have better quality fish with a lot more reasonable prices. If you are like me and found this place from tik tok, this is definitely a place that prioritizes looks over tastes!
Service was probably the only thing that I appreciated. Staff was exceptionally welcoming and quick with orders. They checked in with us multiple times and were very attentive.
We were also looking to be seated at the Japanese styled floor tables, but were told they were reserved for larger parties that never showed up.
Tip: to boost your chances for this experience, we recommend coming with a group of at least 3-4. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jin L.San Francisco, CAJun 9, 2024
Kaisen Don fish bowl which I would like to recommend to everyone who love Kaisen don fish bowl. You will never been disappointed. Amazing fresh fish flying from Toyosu Japan!
Chef Jack will make you like home there.

Quaint restaurant but with a small parking lot. Came here with a party of seven over the weekend. Server was friendly and helpful. She suggested a bottle of unfiltered sake. Two of the six of us weren't a fan. We preferred hot sake which we got to order later that night. From appetizers to sushi to entrees, everything was pretty tasty to our likings.
Another sushi spot to add to my list of favorites in this area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jan 3, 2024
San Leandro is saturated with good sushi spots, and this is another to add to the list. Excellent quality, cool traditional decor, and great menu offerings. They specialize in don buri which sets them apart from others in the area.
