This was one of the best Ktown Karaoke experiences I've had! Generally I expect some frustration using the remote/machine, but at this place you can use an app to connect to the karaoke machine and queue songs along with the rest of your group. This avoided so much of the headache that I've had at other karaoke places! Also, there are a ton of recent popular songs through the app which aren't available in the clunky binders that they also provide (to be used with clunky controller pads labeled only in Korean). Basically-- to have a great time at this place, use the app, not the binders. Note that through the app, there isn't a good selection of non-Western songs, but this wasn't an issue for us.

For our booking of 6 people for 2 hours, plus some drinks/pitchers shared by the group, the price was super reasonable (less than $40/person). Side note: when I called to reserve, no one answered but then I immediately received a text from a different number, through which I booked the reservation. Thought it was weird initially, but it turned out to be legit. All in all though, I had a pretty seamless and positive experience with Karaoke City that checked all my boxes for a really fun karaoke night!

I absolutely adore karaoke and I had a hankering to blast some 2000s songs with my friends. This place was extremely efficient and really one of the only places that took same day reservations by texting me within 15 minutes of me submitting my reservation request. The room was cleaner than pretty much all of the other places that I've been to at this price point and service was immaculate. Music choice was a little limiting since they only had an all-American playlist (none of the really recent songs) and then a separate Asian playlist.

This place can be a little difficult to find, but just look for the 22 on the non-descript building outside and take the elevator up to the 7th floor. For $40 an hour for parties of 5, this place is an absolute gem in an area that is hustling and bustling with a wide variety of karaoke joints.

Went here for a birthday celebration.. singing was fun but the song choices were outdated. Once we entered we noticed how the front desk was completely unattended. Didn't think much of it until we saw a bunch of cards to side which I found to be extremely risky. Leaving a card with the cost was mandatory and seeing how easily they left the cards unattended was off putting... not to mention that the guy at the front was extremely rude to us. There was so much attitude given to us when the rules were not explicitly explained to us. We were put into a room given a paper and then left. We were never let know when our time was up..so have to keep track, it seems like they might have some ploy to keep squeezing money out of you. Gave the guy a 5 dollar tip out of courtesy even tho all he do was enter, be rude and leave. Overall 1/5. I generally believe that the only reason why this place has such a high rating is because of the fun you have with the people you bring not because of the service or place. Would not go back.

Edit: We did not buy food, so we can't say anything regarding the food quality.

This place is pretty affordable compared to some of the other private room karaoke places in the area but I think that's because of their not great audio quality, technical issues and user interface. They have the song books -- one sorted by artist and the other sorted by song title -- and then you have to input on a keypad what song you want to sing. I prefer the electronic interface that lets you sort by decade / genre cause it's more accessible for all ages.

They also have mediocre speakers in the room we had -- the bass was way too strong and we ended up getting feedback in the audio that we needed to call an employee over twice during the time we were there to fix, which was time spent not singing / having fun :( The music list seemed to be updated in mid-late 2019.

I think this place has good reviews because there's an open bar situation, actual bartenders and a place you can hang out besides the karaoke rooms but if you like your karaoke a certain way (like me lol) maybe go somewhere else!?

      Updated review

An update to say that Karaoke City is still an AMAZING karaoke spot.

I made a reservation inquiry via their website and someone texted me less than 30 minutes later to discuss the details. I was able to book a room for our party of 7 completely via text. It was SO easy!

We arrived at 6pm for our reservation and were shown to our room. Since we were all drinking, we opted to do the $22 AYCD deal. It includes beers, wines, and well drinks. We made ample use of the AYCD and they don't skimp on the pours either. Staff were attentive and reacted to our service bells quickly.

They have a GIANT book of songs and we were able to find almost all of the songs we wanted. They also have an app that's easier to use than the books, so that's great.

We had an excellent time and it didn't break the bank. Honestly, if you're looking for a spot to do some holiday karaoke, check out Karaoke City.

Pro tip: Skip the song by clicking STOP.

Best place to do karaoke in ktown. Cheap rates, simple rooms, inexpensive alcohol costs, and usually available rooms make this my go to place for karaoke.

Basically if you're coming here for small karaoke fun, it's a blast. If you plan on hosting a large party with large tabs, there are many other spots in the city that will take better care of you.

I hosted a party here in their largest room for a group of 30+ people. We bought multiple bottles and food items. I asked repeatedly over the course of three hours for someone, anyone, to come by the room to bus food trays and empty glasses from the bottle service, and each time i was given the runaround.
"Oh. Oh you want someone to bus? Ok we'll do that right away", I was told four times.
The fourth time i asked, I went to go ask them in person at the desk, and that's when i noticed all the male staff just huddled around the lobby desk hanging out. Servers i had already spoken to about the issue of bussing bottles and glasses/trash mingling with the front lobby staff. I realized they didn't actually intend to bus and nobody ever came.

30 something glasses, beer bottles, liquor bottles, and large food trays is a hell of a lot of mess to be expected to sit through when you're paying over $1,500 for a room for 3 hours.
We had a similar service issue with the AC. Two large fans were setup in the room to help keep cool as apparently, though the rooms are advertised for large groups, they have an issue with AC for larger groups. I was told they would prop the door and bring more fans and that also never happened.

My group is very accommodating and we made sure to have a great time regardless, without much fuss. The setup *is* nice and KARAOKE itself is fun. However, if you're looking for good service too, this is simply not the place. It feels like the moment they know they're going to have an auto-gratuity of $300 they don't care to actually be of help.
After reading some other reviews i see others have had similar experiences.

I won't bring large parties here again.

Patronized this establishment a few weeks ago. My daughter and her crew had an awesome time. A few hours of karaoke and finger food ....heaven for teenage girls.

Parking is the worst. $55 to park...NYC ridiculous. Staff friendly and welcoming. Four stars because one of the two microphones kept dying, some songs were not able to play despite being listed on the song selections, and compared to other karaoke businesses in the area, our room was just alright.

This was a pleasant surprise and I appreciate them accommodating to teenage girls. Most of the karaoke places did not allow anyone under 21. I wish that more of these were in our area. Potential business opportunity here people. Wok n Roll ain't got nothing on these places up north.

They don't have a lot of well known newer songs. .... Fair. (Though they are an NYC Karaoke bar & even Connecticut karaoke bars have well known newer karaoke versions of songs) but they don't even have a lot of karaoke versions of older songs. How do they not have Destiny's Child or Eminem??? The songs I looked up were from the 90's!! They only have private rooms for rent. Also fair. But we specifically asked for a 15 minute warning for when our time was coming to an end. Our server rarely came into our private room. We wanted to our food and drinks in. I had to go out into the lobby (even though we were the only party in attendance for the night). I placed the order in and 5 minutes after the order was placed, our food came. And they informed us we could finish the song we were in the middle of but then we were done. ... we were halfway through the song at that point. So despite our asking for a 15 minute warning, we only got a 2 minute warning. Despite being a smaller party (only 2 of us) we were auto-charged 20% gratuity. But we only saw our server 3% of the time. When we wanted to place orders, we had to go to the host to do so! Definitely not worth it.

But OH! Don't worry!! As you're exiting, they give you a 30% off ONE HOUR COUPON. So obviously this place is worth the amount you spend and the amount you tip despite never seeing a server even on days where you're their only customers.

Zero out of 10. Not sure why this place has such high reviews.

I was asked to provide my ID before entering the restroom because the employee wanted to verify my gender. I can't begin to explain how problematic this is but I'll just leave this warning...this is not an establishment that is queer or non-binary inclusive. I would encourage you all to spend your money at any other karaoke bar on the same street and avoid coming here. The employee who managed the situation, Isaac, should be trained heavily so in the future the same level of ignorance doesn't impact another paying customer.
