LUXOR is the absolute worst cab company. I have OFTEN found myself giving them the benefit of the doubt. " It's a Saturday night at 8:30, they are really busy.". Well, when the hell do you ever need a cab? Oh- yeah....on SATURDAY nights at 8:30.
For the record. It is definitely not 8:30 on a Saturday night as I am writing this. Oh- its actually 9:10 while I am still waiting for the friggin cab.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Miss Information X.South San Francisco, CA2586May 28, 2013
Dispatcher answers the phone"mgergraba number birga"
I say, "excuse me?"
Silence
I say, "hello"
Dispatcher hangs up.
I call back.
Dispatcher answers the phone"mgergraba number birga"
I say "Is this Luxor cab?"
Long pause.
Dispatcher sighs and says "...yes?" Then proceeds to grunt through getting my phone/address/name as quickly as possible only pausing to sigh with irritation if there is more than one beat between his question and my response and then quickly spits out, "Okayillsendacabout."
"No no no" I say, "I need to SCHEDULE a pickup."
He sighs loudly and barks, "What time?" pauses just long enough for me to answer his question and then hangs up.
Jeeze.
I hang up. Angry. I think about it for a minute and then call back to cancel. This time the phone is answered by the automated service but when the line clicks to a live operator, it's the same dispatcher. Just as impatient. Just as rude.
I'm not interested in any BS about how the dispatchers are overworked or in a hurry to get cabs out or any of that. I'd rather wait on hold and speak to someone calm, friendly, and courteous than be treated like my call (for a paid service, you know, so I can give them MONEY) is a big pain in the ass.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ali A.Urban Honolulu, HI15454Aug 8, 2011
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!
they are incredibly rude, unprofessional, and to be frank, assholes. I hate this company. I also hate the fact that SF has a total of 5 cabs for the entire city.. I mean really? Definitely makes me miss NYC. Even the smaller towns in NY have better cab service than here.
Long story short, I wasted an HOUR AND A HALF waiting for a damn cab on a Saturday night. I called 3 times and was reassured the first two that a cab was on its way. The third time I reached someone who apparently realizes he works a dead end job as a taxi dispatcher and decided to be a total douche- sorry you hate your job buddy. Unbelievable. Will never use this company again.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Justin M.San Francisco, CA10121Mar 30, 2013
Luxor runs the white cabs in the city.
Bottom line the drivers are unpredictable and prone to illegal behavior.
Last night, I was trying to get home to the sunset from the church and duboce area. I hailed a Luxor cab and asked the driver to take me to sunset and Judah. The driver said that he did not go there. This is illegal. I told him that he had to take a fare there. I also asked him for his cabbie information, which he told me was on the outside of his cab. This info should be on the inside of the cab. I asked him to show it to me.
Again he said no and told me to get out of the cab. I said that he should call the police since he could not refuse a fare. He took the keys out of the ignition and refused to move out of the street until we were beeped at a few times.
Then he started driving and shouted at me he was just going to take me downtown. Since we headed a few blocks away from my destination, I told him to stop and let me out. He did so, but then sped off before I could get his license plate number. He did not include his cab driver information anywhere in the vehicle.
I have had standard service from Luxor in the past, but there have been a few times, in addition to this one where drivers have refused fares or demanded that I get out at a location well before my destination.
Luxor should train its driver's better.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dyche M.San Francisco, CA78318Sep 16, 2013
For years Luxor was my 'go to' cab company, especially to the airport. It's not that their cabs are especially clean or their service especially friendly, but their main office is down the hill from my house and it usually doesn't take them long to get a cab to my door.
But that was then. Tonight, catching a cab at midnight back from the airport, I jumped into a Luxor cab and hit the abusive, psycho cab driver lotto. On the way out of the airport he told me the meter was broken and asked how much I usually pay for a ride to my house. I gave him the number but said he should tell me what he wanted me to pay. Somehow, that triggered the craziest string of verbal abuse I have been subjected to for many years. When we got off the highway, I told him to pull over; I threw $40 into the cab; and then hiked the last half mile to my house. I do not want this guy knowing where I live. I also don't want to take the chance that he will show up at my door next time I call Luxor.
I called the Luxor dispatcher as well as their complaint number but no one seemed to care about this guy. Thanks Luxor!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jennifer D.Sebastopol, CA5541869106Jun 17, 2009Updated review
Third strike Luxor, you're out.
Of the last 5 or 6 calls I've put in, 3 have been no shows. Somehow you seem to know when I'm in a hurry and that's when your drivers decide to ignore the call. There is no reason for this whatsoever - I never blow off a cab, I always tip at least 20%; what else do I have to do to be a valued customer?
When I call you after waiting 45 minutes dispatchers, don't tell me that I should be waiting outside my building because someone must have snagged my cab.
a) quite often I'm in the lobby, especially when I'm in a hurry, and if the cab had come anywhere near the front of the building I would've seen it. No one "snagged" it pretending to be me. The driver either blew off the call altogether, or picked someone up along the way.
b) I'm not standing outside my building for an hour while you blow me off, yet again.
Another unsatisfied, non returning customer. Good job!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0May 30, 2009Previous reviewYou guys have been my go to for two years or so, ever since Yellow pissed me off. I don't live on a street where it's a constant cabfest so I have to call rather than hail. Twice now, I've been blown off when I was in a hurry and spent 45 minutes I didn't have to spare waiting for you. I call early for a reason, but this is ridiculous. Let's pretend this is like baseball; one more strike and you're out.
I'm guessing you average two stars for a reason.Apr 20, 2007Previous reviewFIVE STARS for the driver who found my wallet in the back seat and turned it into dispatch fully intact. You sir, are a gentleman and an all around good person.
Minus five stars for the dispatchy guy who then guilted me into leaving a "reward" since cabbies don't usually do such things, and we'd like to encourage them to do so in the future and you have $47 dollars in there and he didn't have to turn it in and sometimes it's not even the cabbies that take it, it's the next customer, but you really need to leave him a reward or something, aren't you going to leave him a reward?, no seriously, you'd better leave some kind of reward.. Um. Did you even GIVE the cab driver the money you extorted out of me, or did it just go into your pocket?
I'm calling it a three star experience just because my driver was pretty awesome. - Jun 9, 2005
Of the city cab companies I think these guys are the most reliable. They also have a great call back system that alerts you when the cab is approaching - though it all too often seems to be offilne. Down with Yellow Cab.

Where is zero stars?
Last night around 9:30 PM I called a cab, and was informed that it would take 5-20 minutes later. An hour later, when I contacted them, the reservation was dropped.
A non pick-up.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bill M.San Francisco, CA49713354Sep 17, 2007
Can I get a friggin' Luxor cab that won't take side streets?!?!
I'm constantly schoolin' those guys to take thoroughfares. They get indignant but it's like, "we're in an alley bro". We need Veterans cab back!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dmitriy S.Santa Clara, CA3009062946May 11, 2013
It's 3am. The night of St. Patrick's Day. BART is closed. Muni is closed. You're freezing your ass off on Embarcadero. The only way to get home is in a taxi. Now, what do you do if that taxi never comes? You Yelp it? I guess so.
Luxor Cabs was offering half off or free (can't remember) taxi rides the night of St. Patrick's Day. I believe it was sponsored by a law firm to discourage people from driving. We made the mistake of believing the whole deal.
Attempt #1: We call Luxor. They say cab will be there in 10-15 min.
...30 min goes by and no cab or phone call. Streets are starting to clear out.
Attempt #2: Call them back. They say the guy's on his way. 5-10 min.
...20 min goes by. Still nothing. Now we're getting pissed.
Attempt #3: We furiously call them back. They say keep waiting 15-20 more min he'll be there. At this point my friend gets pissed and confronts them. A few malicious words are exchanged. We hang up. See a normal cab drive by. Hail it down and enjoy hindi music for the next 20 min on the way to Oakland.
In conclusion, f*k Luxor Cabs. I understand it was a busy night, but they've been doing this long enough to know they should have their shit together. Horribly disorganized, untrustworthy, and extremely unprofessional. Thanks lonely 4am Pakistani taxi driver for rescuing us.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
