Q:
If I'm at the metal detectors waiting line, does it mean we have to remove shoes before, putting them back on? I mean, I recently got a new pair of hands free slip ins from Skechers and not worrying about tying them up.
A:
If you’re TSA pre-check you can leave them on; otherwise, you’ll need to remove.

Can anyone tell me why Oakland baggage claim take so long? I've used it monthly since 2004...no one has the answer.
A:
I found it the worst I've ever used. No one here I asked could answer.

Wow. Big improvement from the old days. Writing this while at the gate. The TSA and airport workers are the friendliest I have encountered. Sac ok, Vegas mean SOBS.
There is the one section that is the same. Narrow and only one direction can go past at a time. Bad design from the old days. I spy many more hipster food and drink options. Oaklandia coffee. Rockbridge bar. More.
Gate seats still old. Added outlets but in a wall section area only to save $ likely.
The friendly workers and lowest fares by far vs Sac, SF, SJ airports makes it a 5 star hitter.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Jun 18, 2022
I usually fly out of here and the overall experience has definitely gotten better. Better food options, cleaner more modern outlook, security check in is hit or miss but overall doesn't take too long.
Appreciate the KP thrive water filling station with the "good" water but they need to work out the filling kinks. You need to hold the button down for the next person or it will go into replenish mode and you can't fill up for 5 min. There's usually a line so if you're in a hurry you can probably fill up at the other regular water stations near the restrooms- I'm sure the quality is fine.
I like how they added a Fenton's, Farley's Cafe and plan to add a Tay-Ho (asian food spot), which I used to frequent when I worked in Oakland.
Aside from the sporadic minor delays, flying out of Oakland works just fine for me!Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0 - May 6, 2023
Well I like this place better than the San Francisco airport for a couple of reasons. First it's cheaper to fly out of here, the rent cars are cheaper here, it's easier to return rental cars here and just easier to get around in Oakland than San Francisco.

Guess where we are going...
Where many of my Yelp friends just came from and are going to!
I will not be Yelping until I get back, so enjoy the break and then be prepared for an abundance of Yelps. :)
Our favorite airport in California/Bay Area.
We fly out of San Francisco for international flights.
We fly out of the small airports when using services like JetSuite, see previous Yelps.
Quality/Quantity -
Easy in and out.
We are lucky because we do not worry about the parking situation, as we always get rides or use Uber.
For my friends, it is an easy BART ride to the airport.
Atmosphere - Small, user friendly airport.
We also try to pick dates and times during less busy traveling seasons.
Restaurants keep changing.
And I guess Starbucks left...
Peets left the Andale restaurant, but it looks like another full Peets is coming soon...? See picture.

Owner Comment - Thanks for being so easy for us to fly in and out of the Bay Area.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Feb 22, 2023
I have to admit that I like OAK. The TSA lines are not as crazy at SFO and since the air traffic isn't as heavy as SFO, it isn't that crowded. Flying to and from Hawaii is convenient to where we live on the east bay and the amount of flights to the islands is plentiful. You can choose from Alaska, Hawaiian Air, or Southwest, all go to Honolulu. For other international destinations SFO is more convenient since it's a major hub for United, but for Hawaii trips, this place is great.
Their long term parking is also very convenient and located next to Terminal 1. You can even walk to the terminal in a few short minutes if you park close to the parking entrance. Otherwise, you can always use the airport parking shuttle.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2022
WOW! I got off the plane and saw this right away. Didn't expect it and am impressed with it. OMG. So cute!!
Overall, having come in and left from this airport to SoCal a few times now, I have found my experience here to be always very positive and consistent. I haven't been discriminated or treated unfairly by anyone here, let alone staff and workers. It's a very well-paced airport with ease and comfort as their motto, in my opinion. THANKS!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 6, 2023
It's a decent airport when it comes to small international airports.
Not a ton up food options if you have a layover, but enough to keep you occupied.
Not many terminals and gates are relatively close together so even if you're running a bit late you should be fine.
Security was easy to get through, very little waiting.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Mar 28, 2022
Smaller international than I thought it would with just two terminals; 2 is dedicated to Southwest Airlines and all other airlines fly out of terminal one.
Good variety of shops including Peets Coffee, Sees candies, Vino for those that had not had enough at the local vineyards and some gift shops with assorted snacks and essential items for sale.
They have an Escape Lounge / Amex centurion located in Terminal one.
To walk from the end of terminal one to terminal two takes about 15-20 minutes, good exercise if your flight is delayed.
TSA security was extremely smooth with just two people in front of us, we actually beat out TSA pre check friends we were flying with.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
