Scott the Fix It Guy

Ok - the previous reviews say it all...so in summary: prompt in response and appointment times; competent and efficient; straightforward and trustworthy; nice, decent and pleasant to work with; highly recommend. And, to add, for those who 'wonder or are skeptical' about Yelp reviews: I found Scott on Yelp just by searching, read the reviews and trusted they were honest and not 'paid' for...and wasn't asked to write a review! Since me and hubby are totally not 'fix it' people, I'm certain down the road, we will have Scott back to our home as things age...

Yay, a reliable fix-it guy!!

Had to wait a week before he had time to come by, but now I see why he's in such demand: he answered e-mails promptly, showed up on time, was neat and clean, brought the parts needed (having asked me lots of questions about the problem before he arrived), answered questions and gave advice on upkeep. He fixed my washing machine in no time, helped get it level, and even helped me figure out how to get deep into my dryer to clear out lint. All at a very reasonable price. He's a very nice, personable guy to boot.
He works on an array of appliances, so if I ever need anything else fixed, I'll definitely call Scott first!!

Here's what I want in a repair person: Clean presentation, friendly, focused on work, affordable, trustworthy.
Scott is fantastic - all these things and more.

In particular, he was able to complete the repair of our washing machine in a timely manner, while explaining every aspect of the project to my technically inclined 4 year old. I believe my son will think of Scott as a celebrity from this day forward. I just hope he doesn't go breaking things to get Scott back!

What a find. Thanks Yelp - you've taken much of the mystery out of calling a repair man. Scott is as good as the 5-star reviews suggest!

Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator cost me $195 for service and parts with Scott for a unit that failed one week later.

Scott was seemingly very helpful with recommending a part for my fridge with an accompanying video on how to install the part. It looked simple, so I ordered the part. Unfortunately, it was the wrong part ($70) and is non-returnable. The original part for the fridge may have been replaced by someone else with another type of part (fridge was in the kitchen when we bought the house). After a few emails with Scott, we were finally able to get him to come in and look at the unit. He replaced the part that was broken for $125. He suggested that I could return the unit to the store (which he also recommended in Berkeley), although as noted, it was non-returnable (I have yet to find a hardware store that accepts electronic parts for return).

Unfortunately, the fridge failed one week later. Scott could not make it to our house for a few days, so he recommended someone else, who suggested that the compressor was broken, if the part that Scott replaced was correct. However, that person does not work on refrigerators, so he referred me to someone else, who does not service my area. However, he also suggested that the compressor was probably broken, which would be expensive to replace (labor + service call) and that I should probably replace the fridge, which is what we did.

As noted by others, Scott seems to be a well-meaning person, who actually tries to save you money by suggesting parts and video links to help you solve the problem. Hence, two stars vs. 1. However, he does not seem to have the diagnostic tools needed to service a refrigerator, which he should have used when he did visit to "fix" the unit.

Not a good experience and I will not call Scott again. $195, over 4 hours spent cleaning the fridge after it was "fixed", and multiple efforts to move items in and out of the fridge into coolers. Disaster.

I highly recommend Scott. He is super sweet and easy to work with. His pricing was very fair. We had our Viking dishwasher replaced with a Thermador and it was such a breeze to work with him. I know...how bad can swapping out a broken dishwasher be...not sure, but with high grade dishwasher it can get pretty messy. So I called Scott. He came out a few days later, took about an hour-n-half to do the swap without an incident...tested and worked perfectly. Best of all, I was able to watch the process with him explaining detail of what was going on with the swap...he was so welling to teach. Thank you for the awesome work...I'm so glad we found you. Till our next break down of some appliance...cheers.

I had a problem with my old old Maytag washer, and called Scott. I got a prompt reply with a recommendation to check for a simple issue which I could fix myself. I appreciate this; he could have just as easily shown up and done it himself and cheated me.

But, moot point. It wasn't that. In any case, he came when he said he would, did what he said he'd do, and charged reasonably. Plus he gave me further advice on what I could expect from the washer in the future. Thanks Scott! Will call again.

Scott is a throwback - a honest businessman who won't rip you off. Case in point, he came out during a holiday weekend at no extra charge to repair my commercial dryer in an apartment building I own. He was on time and took care of it lickety split. Parts and labor, under a bill. You can't beat that.

As you can imagine, a fair honest repairman is never out of work and it is apparently very true with Scott. I had to wait a tad to get on his schedule but it was well worth it.

Even better, he is willing to take payment via Paypal!!! How convenient is that!!!!

Scott, if you would only consider coming over to the West side of the Bay!!! I'll pay the toll and gas!!!!

Thanks Scott for helping fix my mother's washing machine. She is very happy that she can keep her washer. Very honest and knows his stuff. We would gladly call Scott again and to recommend him to others.

Based on all of the good reviews, I called Scott to fix our dishwasher leak. A previous reviewer suggested that it's useful to give him the model number in advance, and I was even able to locate the part number that I thought it might need.

Scott showed up right on time, with the part in hand, and had the leak fixed within a half an hour. He's very professional and personable, and educated me on ways to keep the dishwasher maintained. He also gave me some tips on our washer and dryer to keep them running longer.

I couldn't be happier with him, and feel confident about using him whenever needed!

So this review is based on service he didn't do because he never came. I called him several times during the hours listed I never got a call back or response. He emailed me back and forth, made an appointment, and then never showed up. I have no idea where this guy gets good reviews when he can't show up for his appointments.
