Q:
I'm a trans guy (pre-everything unfortunately) that's new to the city and looking for a good place to meet people. Would this be a safe place for me to hang out? Not really looking for a hook up place, more just somewhere to frequent.

There are better options in the city than the Eagle for someone looking for what you want.

Iconic piece of gay culture in the heart of New York City. Please be aware of their cover charge as they charge before the outlined times.

So much fun and debauchery. Perfect for the single man on the prowl or adventurous couples. The staff has always been very cordial and professional. The crowd is welcoming and diverse. Drinks are strong, so pace yourself. We hadn't gone for a long time and tonight will be our third time this week.

I usually try to spin through here if I'm visiting the city on a weekend. One of the best parts is an outdoor bar on the roof: even in cold weather it's nice to experience. No need to explain this type of bar, you like it or you don't. At the bare minimum it's a great people watching, live-affirming, diversity expanding experience! The music is pretty loud inside is my only complaint but that's expected, less talking more looking.

Your bar is discriminating I went and they tried charging me and my gay friends $25 each but let other people in for free right in front of me

Place is very limited to Wednesday and Sundays. Any other day this place is dead. Bar tenders are rude. Even the non bartenders, Specifically Joe, felt the need to push around paying customers because he was carrying a case of of beer. Joe really is the reason for this review. He really needed a power trip as a bar employee to yell at me and my friends for walking in front of him when he was carrying a case of beer. He physically pushed one of us and told us to get out of the way, we had no idea he was behind us. However, this is the customer service you can expect from this place, as all the employees cover for each other. I really hope joe felt visible for once in his life.

It was wild. I like it very, very much. And you can touch every body randomly. And everybody's enjoy it. It's great.

$25 cover? For what? Pearl-clutching security constantly shocked that shenanigans might be happening? At the leather cruise bar? Look, if you don't want us to play at your place then we won't. Sadly, for all its history, this place is dead to me. No thanks.

Extremely rude bar staff. They just walk away from you if you ask for water. Also they charge $5 for a seltzer and only sell bottled water and won't give you tap water. Extremely rude and stingy for a place that charges a cover and coat check fees totaling $20. A little human decency goes a long way. Will not be back to this dump

I've been going to the eagle for many years. In the last year they've gotten carried away with cover charges ranges from $15-$25. The cash only bar with Dixie sized cups are way too over priced. Even more recent, they've been hiring females and allowing more and more woman inside. This is a cruising bar for men, it's Raunchy. It's not a place for straight woman!!!!

Bane: "Theatricality and deception; powerful agents to the uninitiated... but we are initiated, aren't we Bruce?"
That pretty much sums up one's experience at the Eagle. Either you get it or you don't. One gets the feeling that as the years go on, activities have been calmed down or downright discouraged. Drinks are expensive and they don't take cards, but it is a historic bar catering to the leather/fetish community so it's a mixed blessing.
To be honest I'm surprised it's survived this long. I hope it stays because gay venues are slowly but surely being phased out. Either way, please stop bringing ladies here boys...why this bar of all places?Helpful 9Thanks 2Love this 5Oh no 0
