I love this bar! It's dark, moody and romantic.
It feels like you're stepping back in time! I have never had a problem with service. Even when it's super busy the bartenders will come around and check on you.
The food is okay, pub food with good fries but other dishes are not as strong. The mussels had hot sausage, which caught me off guard and was so spicy I couldn't finish it.
But the drinks are always delicious and the location is perfect. You can grab a fancy drink the Roost and then come over and keep it going with some food. It's perfect for a first date or a place to go before and after a concert at Ace. I never have trouble finding parking near the place and it feels very safe. I have never encountered anything weird or scary which can happen when you're a woman walking around alone.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jan 21, 2023
My cousin and I decided to wander around the R street area and check out some of the bars. The Shady Lady was our second stop of the night because I knew they had food and we were really hungry. We stopped in around 7 or so and they were already packed. (It was a Saturday night). We placed our name on the waiting list and we're told that it would be about 30 minutes and we could grab a drink at the bar in the meantime. As we were waiting to grab some drinks I noticed a couple leave and we were able to grab their seats. We were greeted immediately upon sitting down. We ordered drinks while waiting for a table. After quite some time we got really hungry and it seemed that people who came in after us were getting seated while we were still waiting. We finally asked the bartender if we could order food and luckily he said yes. We started with a pretzel because who doesn't love a giant pretzel. No complaints! It came out super fast, piping hot and with the best dipping sauces! After devouring that, we moved on to sliders and a french dip. These plates also came out pretty quickly but they weren't as good as the pretzel. The french dip wasn't bad, it's just the sauce that didn't have enough flavor to elevate the sandwich. The sliders were new and advertised as being spicy which I'm all about. They weren't terrible. It's good bar food. We got spicy drinks too that were made to perfection by Derrick, he's awesome. Definitely recommend dropping in for a pretzel and some drinks. Sit back and enjoy the vibes.

Really cute vibe, my friends and I came for some appetizers and drinks and we were all very satisfied. Server was super friendly and the aesthetics screams speakeasy decor/vibes. Great place to start your night or end it. I have come here a few times and each time the atmosphere is inviting.

I recently went back to Shady Lady and I just love this place. The staff no longer wears suits and classic attire but they are very cool, nice and make good drinks :) I would definitely recommend! I do with they served food longer when there is concerts playing down the street at Ace of Spades but I get it... can bet income based on concerts because it's not everyone's vibe.

I would give it more stars if I hadn't had two guy bartenders think their stuff didn't stink- they were sooo rude!! It's really like a hit or miss- I've had a couple amazing bartenders as well. Food is ok, drinks are basic from back in the day drinks- try the WHITE LINEN- it's by far the best drink there!

This is a great place for top notch cocktails. The food is excellent, the servers are friendly and attentive. The decor is classic. It is popular so can get busy and noisy at times. We always enjoy our visits here.

First timer. Cool vibe. I like the decor and the chill dim lighting ambiance. Great place to chill with friends and enjoy a drink and food. Classic Mai Tai was yum and strong. I tried some of my friend's Bone Marrow dish I thought it was delicious! The charcuterie board and french fries were good too. Our server was down to earth and attentive.

I want to say that the drinks are great. They were really good, and the ambiance is what you would expect, but the one thing that made me take time out of my day to get them a one star review was our bartender.
From interactions with everyone he probably prides himself with being the surly bartender, like that's his excuse for being rude. I'm just always upset. Well, you shouldn't be customer facing.
At first I excused his behavior to being drunk. I mean owners, rewind the video. There was a point where he was cleaning the bar and he was knocking things down and creating more of mess. He was stumbling, he was stomping at roaches or something. It was off. But hey if they're cool with you being drunk at work, alright I guess.
The interaction that made it bad was that my friend asked about tequila he said " we got this one" and she asked if he liked it, he said "It's ok" she asked for it to be served with a soda water and lime. This guy acted like it was the end of the world, he smirked and condescendingly said "you want to mix it with soda water? Okaaaay." Like my guy, you might as well have twisted your pretentious mustache and stumbled back. It's not crazy for that drink to be ordered. In Mexico we drink that all the time. It keeps us drunk and hydrated. But at the end of the day, dude it's not your job to evaluate everyone's drink choice and judge them. I don't care how DRUNK you are.
He was a rude person and I mean eventually it will affect business. It's not like that place is unique.
The guy has like a receding hairline, mustache, wearing a polo that was buttoned all the way to the top, and hung his big ass key chain on his back pant loop. So yeah, edgy cool surly guy.
If I was a manager I would rewind the tapes and see how much of your alcohol he's been drinking, I'm not above having a few at work, but if it affects your mood and how you interact in a customer facing emotional environment where tips help you live and returning customers make the business. Maybe don't be rude because you don't like their drink order. You know, maybe just make the drink and do your job. I don't even need a smile or personality, I just need you to do your job right.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Tony M.Rancho Cucamonga, CA217855Jan 10, 2023
Great craft cocktails. Delicious food. Very cool ambience. The house cheddar biscuits with smoked, whipped butter and bacon jam are a must

One of the best establishments in Sac. Always went for drinks but ended up eating there after the Capitol Beer Fest. I'll admit, I had no notion that their food was great. So now I'll occasionally go there for a quick bite or dinner (I don't eat out often)
