    About the Business

The extraordinary centerpiece of Hudson Yards is its spiral staircase, a soaring new landmark meant to be climbed. This interactive artwork was imagined by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio as a focal point where people can enjoy new perspectives of the city and one another from different heights, angles and vantage points. Comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs -- almost 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings - the vertical climb offers remarkable views of the city, the river and beyond.

    • Q:

Best time to go in a weekday?

      A:

If you are asking in terms of wait time, it doesn't matter since tickets are reserved for specific time slots. If you are going for photos, I would go in the morning or early afternoon.

One of the new- esh addition to Nyc's always changing landscape. The Vessel is a soaring, spiral architectural centerpiece of the Hudson yard area.

The vessel like structure is 16 stories, 2500 steps climb to the top. I was fortunate to check it out on its first week of opening. Too bad its temporarily closed for now for safety reasons.

Despite its closure, the Vessel is still interesting to view from
the bottom. wow inducing backdrop for pictures for locals & visitors alike

Just behind the vessel is a high end mall , with clean bathrooms & food stores.

The vessel is not to be missed if you are visiting nyc!

Beautiful and unique architecture display. Unfortunately, no one was allowed to walk the steps anymore. Regardless, it was still a great location to take pictures, selfies, Instagram, etc. A definite visit with any NYC trip.

One of my all time fav place in NYC. First time I went there it was unintentional! Tried to visit the Edge but they were full so ended up here & loved it.

Because of people jumping from the top they closed it down again‍So still didn't able to climb up. But u still can go inside , it's amazing !

Christmas time the lighting is amazingMe personally can stay all day long & never will get bored . Btw try to catch the sunset also & u will be shocked !

So, I have mixed feelings about this architectural piece!

      Pros:
      - It is very interesting to look at, stunning honestly
      - It's in a great location near food and shopping
      - You can walk inside it/around it
      - Close to the subway so can make a quick stop

      Cons:
      - If you read about the history and why you can't go up the structure, it's pretty sad and dark
      - Could the money to build this have been spent elsewhere? Yep
      - You'll see it for about 5 minutes and then likely be done

      Updated review

Since my initial visit & review this attraction has gone through some unwanted changes u are no longer allowed to go up unfortunately due to suicides sad to say. Who knows if & when it will reopen but my guess is not any time soon.
If u had the chance to visit & go up u will at least have the memory it was a beautiful view from the top.
Conveniently accessible by the 7 train as this leaves u front & center.
Now the area is used for mainly viewing as well as promotional events & if u like high end shopping this is certainly an area for it.
My most recent visit was during the holidays & they really put some nice work into it, the entire area is lit up & it just looks amazing.
Overall The Vessel has become an NYC staple & whether u agree it's cool to see or think what's the point of this thing? It's there & not Likely going any where so why not take the time & check it out. I'd say it's worth a visit specially during the holidays.

This is a unique piece of architecture but it's design is really nice. I came here after leaving The Highline and I did some shopping inside (located behind the vessel).
I also came back to watch TV later that week and it was like being at the movies, they have food vendors nearby to grab a bite while you watch shows and they also have lounge chairs around.
At the time you're not able to walk up the vessel due to reasons I won't mention here, but until the city can figure out a better solution to make it safer they have closed that part.

I honestly couldn't give more than 4 stars for what is really just a visitor attraction based on structure. It's a honeycomb style thingy that's around 15 or 16 stories high. You can climb the stairs up to each platform if you like and the rumor is that this structure cost $200 million dollars to build. The steps on this thing are either made of copper or just coated in it. It sits in the Hudson Yards Public Square.

This structure is located in Hudson Yards and near Ground Zero. It was opened in March 2019 and definitely demands your attention. I had to go visit. The structure is astounding. It is not really a building, but an interactive piece of art. It is virtually a spiral staircase comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs. Visitor can get remarkable views of the city, and the river from here....If it was open. It reminds me of a space aged bee-hive. It stands 150' high and is the work of architect Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studios.

Unfortunately, you can not go up because it is currently closed due to a wave of suicides being committed there. Access is restricted to the ground-level base, which is free. There is no plan to open it back up until they can figure out how to stop the suicides there.

Even though you cannot really go in, and I understand why, it is still a nice piece of art to visit. I consider it a large sculpture and a place to get some good pictures. I would recommend making it part of a larger itinerary though as you would probably not spend a lot of time there.

Getting here via the subway is relatively easy, as there is a subway station across the street. There are garages nearby, but they can become pricey.

I really like this place and hope that they are able to safely open it back up fully. It is deinitely a must see while in NYC.

New York's staircase, located in the Hudson Yards!

Visited during my most recent stay in NYC. Really nice area to eat lunch or visit with friends. The area is packed with locals and tourists. This was of course another bucket list places for me. Parking is crazy so good luck, no tips on public trans. I had alot of other stops, so parking and walking was best for me.

I didn't spent alot of time here. The only floor open was bottom entry way. Took a few pics and on my way I went. Yes its absolutely amazing and gorgeous inside and out. You have to see for yourself. I won't bore you with the history...

Unfortunately people have died by jumping from the sculpture since it opened in 2019. It has been closed since last summer Aug '22.

My only hope is to visit during Xmas time.

Really cool landmark to check out and take photos of.
You can't go up the vessel anymore due to people jumping off and committing suicide....

Basically it's like NYC's version of the Bean in Chicago. You go there to take photos of it in creative angles and poses
