Q:
Our bathing suits optional?
A:
Yes. Per Watercourse Way's FAQ swimsuits are not required in the private hot tub rooms. They advise some swimsuits color react poorly to the chlorine and they aren't responsible if your swimsuit becomes discolored from the chlorine.

Do you have a SPA day where people can use other amenities aside from buying a massage?
A:
Yes, our private hot tub rooms can be booked separately. Also facials, wraps and scrubs.

I've been coming here for a while and must say that Watercourse Way is top notch. Their staff are always friendly on the phone and in person, the facilities are always clean, and the massage therapists (and I have had quite a few) are all very competent and know what they're doing. I think it's a great deal as well. $108 for a one hour tub AND one hour massage! Simply amazing.
Things I like:
- Rooms 1, 8, and 9. Those are the only (?) rooms with a tub, sauna/steam room, and cold plunge. The other rooms are smaller and don't make me feel like I've stepped into another world. Room 1 and 8 have a sauna, which I prefer over the steam room in 9. Steam makes it hard to breathe, so if you do go in, wet a small towel with cold water so you can put it over your nose to breathe.
- Massage rooms upstairs are more spacious and better decorated than the ones on the ground floor.
- The showers downstairs are AMAZING! Nice dark furnishing, high ceiling, with a HUGE rain shower. The only thing you need to remember is to check whether the shampoo/conditioner/bath gels are filled. It's a pain when you're already wet and shampooed, only to realize they are out of body wash.
- Customer service: I did have one massage that disappointed me, but that was very professionally addressed by Sheilla, who credited my account with $50 for a future massage. She did miss our first scheduled call, but I get it, people get busy.
Things I don't like:
- All massage therapists here have their own technique, but are all good in their own right. The one I had just last weekend with Shala was the only disappointing one though. When I pay for a 1 hour massage, I expect to get a 1 hour massage, so I'm very aware of any stalls that appear to take away from my hour. After the initial meet & greet, inquiry about problem areas, and instructions on how to get under the sheets, she stood there in the room a little longer than necessary. I was tempted to ask "okay, can I get in now (so please exit the room)?" but her lingering made me feel like I was supposed to disrobe in front of her. Anyway, she left the room, so I got under the sheets. My previous massage therapists come in very quickly. A few times I was caught snapping pictures of the room! But Shala seemed to linger outside. Maybe her client's usually take longer? The massage starts and usually what happens after a few compression presses on the back, is the therapists put oil on their hands, and then spread the oil on my back before digging in with their elbows (I always request deep tissue). Shala compressed my back, my arms, my thighs, my calfs, everywhere. Compressions don't do a thing for me, so I felt that was a little long. Then she removes the sheet and tells me "the massage oil is a little warm," but I've never had an issue with that, until I feel her squirting the oil directly on my back from the bottle!! I felt like I was a turkey being prepared for the oven. Shala squirt a lot on my back, and then started spreading it all over my back, shoulders, and arms. Again, it seemed like a stall tactic when by now any other massage therapist would be half way done with one side of my back. The massage begins, and things seem to finally get better. Shala asks how the pressure is, and it was actually very firm and good. But from that point things started going south again. After finishing my right side, she then walks to my left, but not before blowing her nose. She sounded congested before, and I understand because I was just getting over a cold, but blowing your nose while giving a massage is a big no no. I would have just plugged my nose with a tissue and waited until my client left before blowing my nose, because it just isn't sanitary. If signs in restaurants say the staff have to wash their hands with soap after they sneeze/cough into them, isn't blowing a bunch of mucous from your nose into a literally paper thin tissue much worse? The massage continued, and it felt like I was just getting an oil rub, which I absolutely hate. Why pay to get rubbed down with oil by a trained massage therapist, when I can get that at home for free?! Shala went through the usual motions of going over the arms and legs, flipping me over and covering my hands and feet with warm towels, massaging my shoulders, etc. but half way through I was already debating whether I should ask her to stop so I could leave. I was that unhappy. When we were done and I looked at the clock, I realized that I had not only gotten an unsatisfactory massage, but was shorted 5 minutes. I'm sure Shala gives a great light Swedish massage, but definitely not deep tissue.
- Twice now the ladies booking my appointment tell me they're going to give me a male massage therapist (I don't have a preference either way) who is supposedly great, but when I come in they always turn out to be female! What's going on? And twice in a row?! This better not happen when people request a specific therapist, because that would really annoy me!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 488241754Mar 7, 2024
Watercourse Way is a sanctuary of relaxation, offering an extraordinary bathhouse and spa experience. The rooms, adorned with inviting hot tubs, provide a blissful escape from the daily hustle. What sets this spa apart are the rejuvenating cold plunge rooms. These unique spaces add a refreshing and therapeutic dimension to the experience, enhancing the overall sense of healing and well-being. The attention to detail and serene ambiance make Watercourse Way a haven for those seeking a perfect blend of luxury and holistic rejuvenation. I highly recommend indulging in the cold plunge rooms for a truly invigorating and revitalizing spa visit.

Nice clean spa with really cool private baths to book. We've been here few times, have tried different baths with jacuzzi and sauna, and also have gotten massages. The quality of service is really good: baths are clean and our massages haven either decent or excellent. The staff are nice & professional.

(( Review pertaining to a facial appt)))
It's recommended to book your appt. ahead of time because they tend to book out. Especially if you want the "higher experienced/trained facialists". Cancellation policy is only 48 hours without penalty and when you're making the appt you're have to enter in a credit card to hold it. Showed up to the appt and they offered tea or water. It was quite busy with other people trying to book appt. Everything went very smooth and the Grazyna was helpful with walking me through everything throughout the facial and took great care and showed expertise. My skin felt fresh and revamped. I chose the 5 layer fresh organic 1hr long facial. The one drawback is the price you pay for it. It is quiete expensive and decided to only splurge because I had a gift card. If you want to come for a special event or couples spa day I'd recommend for the quality of the service, but because of the price point it's not something that I can afford to come back for regularly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 20, 2024
I can't be the only one that thought this place was shady.. before they visited it right? I'm glad I was wrong!
If you have never been to a Japanese Bath House before, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how something so simple can be so relaxing. I believe the "proper" method is sauna first, cold plunge, and then jacuzzi. Fair warning: the jacuzzi feels like needles before it feels relaxing after that cold plunge!
What makes WWBS stand out are their private rooms. Other bath houses you have to be quiet and there are no cell phones allowed in common areas. It's nice to be able to enjoy this experience and have light conversation with your partner.
Note - there are bathrooms in the main area with lotion, hairspray, blow dryers and disposable combs. It is pretty difficult to get re-dressed in the tub room cause of all the steam, so bring a swim coverall and finish changing in the bathroom instead!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - J L.San Jose, CA1395785Aug 10, 2024
Coordinated a girls night here with a few friends and will definitely be back. Staff was friendly and helpful in guiding our booking, helping us select the perfect room for our group of 5. We had a room with a sauna, hot tub and cold plunge pool and spent an hour there before our individual services. I had the deep tissue massage and the masseuse was friendly, intentional, had a calming presence, meticulous technique, deep/strong pressure, used calming aromatherapy and hot stones.

Loved the experience. Clean, private rooms. Each room differs but all have a tub. The room we got had a hot tub, cold plunge and steam room. They offer complimentary iced water and tea. Also have a cute shop in the front. The spa was relaxing and staff gave a run through since it was our first time there. There is plenty of 2hr street parking but they also have a small lot attached.

2024 update: I decided to give it another try and scheduled a deep tissue with a different masseuse, who was wonderful and got all my sore muscles. I hope they keep vetting their massage therapists for quality, as it makes all the difference. I also got a chance to soak in six dragonflies and it was lovely. Relaxing environment with a hot soak, cold dip and awesome shower.
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 18, 2023Previous review3/18/2023: This place used to be where I'd have a soak while catching up with friends pre-Covid, so it pains me to report: if you're not here to enjoy the amenities, save your money and get a Chinese foot massage instead. It's changed, a lot. Watercourse used to be a refuge, where you knew no matter which masseuse you got, you'd have a great massage and float away happily. Not true today. I came with my sister for an individual deep tissue massage. When you check-in at the front desk, you're asked for your name and to pay upfront. I don't recall having to tip prior to the service, but it's been a few years so I went for it. I paid $200 and eagerly awaited. I had Casey, who after asking where I wanted extra TLC, poked and prodded those areas. It was rough and I felt like I was being manhandled (which I'd be mentally prepared for at a foot spa, but not here). After I stated in Mandarin that those areas were tender, she explained I had booked a deep tissue massage. I asked for lighter pressure and I didn't notice a difference. After about 10 minutes, I asked to switch to a Swedish because everything was too painful, even after trying to breathe through the pain. She rolled me onto my back and proceeded to wrap my hair in a towel. I have thick, long hair and the towel didn't wrap (if we were in a hair salon and she had just washed my hair, I would have warned her of this). After attempting to wrap a towel for 10 minutes, I asked if it was necessary and she laughed and said "big head". (I took that as a no.) She then poured a ton of oil on my chest (more than previously had been spread all over my entire body), got out hot stones, held my head down and scrubbed my chest and neck furiously like the stone was a loofah. She ended with a 25-second-per foot "massage" that felt like she was cleaning my feet. She spent more time wiping my feet after than massaging it. I was glad when it was all over. She seemed like a really nice lady who just lacked the skills of massage. Save $150 and go to a foot spa!
4/2/2023 update: Their customer service left a voicemail saying they wanted to make things better which was very nice but when I tried calling back (3 times!) I was placed on hold for 5-10 minutes each time and then disconnected. Not sure how people actually get through to make appointments anymore (book online not by phone if you want to risk an experience!) - Channing C.San Francisco, CA03Aug 18, 2024
Watercourses Way was the perfect spot for a relaxing day with my husband. The eight stars hot tub, sauna, and cold plunge were just what we needed to unwind and de-stress. But the real highlight was the deep tissue massage from Jenny & Li Huong. They really knew how to work out all the knots and tension in my shoulders and lower back. Plus, they gave us some great tips for stretching at home. We will definitely be making this a monthly treat for ourselves. Can't wait to go back!
