About the Business
Established in 1924. For 99 years, Edomasa was a place where be-loved locals, sumo wrestlers and yakitori lovers would casually swing by on their way home from work or after their long day for quick, hot and comforting chicken skewers cooked by chefs with passion in Ryogoku, Tokyo. We're very excited to keep the tradition here in San Francisco and create a place where anyone can come try Japanese yakitori cozily!

Came here about 15 minutes before opening, and there was already a line outside the restaurant. We ended just barely missing the cutoff, so we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table.
Once we got seated, we got the $30 set menu (only food item they offer right now anyway besides add-ons and appetizers). I also ordered a chicken breast skewer, which they instructed us to eat ASAP because otherwise it'd dry out. This was surprisingly plump, moist, and tender for chicken breast!
Standout on the set menu for me was the chicken meatball and soup. Everything else just kind of tasted the same besides the chicken heart on the stamina skewer, soup, and rice. Nothing was particularly special in terms of flavor besides the meatball and soup, but I will say the chicken itself was high quality.
Service was great; they were very attentive and made sure we were comfortable. One server checked to make sure the AC unit wasn't blowing directly at us.
Overall, it's a nice experience, but I'm not sure if I'd choose to come back. Makes a great date spot though!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 428319931Dec 7, 2023
Yay for a new restaurant in Japantown center!! This place specializes only in chicken skewers and apparently comes all the way from Tokyo! We got the $30 tasting menu which comes with 7 apps/skewers. I'm not a huge meat person so not sure how to discern quality but everything tasted pretty good to me. Some skewers felt a bit dry but that's chicken for you.
I was surprisingly pretty full at the end, perhaps because they help pace the skewers as well.
Service was great and it wasn't hard to walk in early Friday nightHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 2, 2023
After hearing about how popular this yakitori spot was in Tokyo, I was excited to try it in SF. Its new location is inside the shops of Japantown on the second floor in the corner. They're currently only offering a set menu that involves various parts of chicken. There's a decent amount of seating inside and they were readily able to accommodate our party of 7.
My favorite items from the set were the momo (thigh) and the nakamoto (mid joint wing). These pieces of the chicken were moist and coated with enough sauce. Other skewers such as the breast were standard. The last item from the set was seasoned rice, but it didn't have chicken in it and was quite heavy to finish off on. I wish they would've ended on the chicken paitan soup instead of starting with it. The soup was a hearty, home-y chicken soup. We also got pitchers of sapporo which is a must when eating yakitori.
I'll definitely be back to try other menu items once they roll out a different menu!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 2 - Andrew M.Mountain View, CA162363Jul 16, 2024
The food was good though the place was smaller than I expected. Having more seafood options was a pleasant addition to the usual suspects. I loved the hotate and unagi skewers. Maybe having some more traditional chicken options like teba would be great to round out the menu.

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and we waited about 30 minutes after putting our name on the waitlist. Definitely worth the wait!
We ordered the grand opening yakitori set and everything was delicious and super filling! For $30, it is so worth your money. All of the skewers were cooked really well and flavorful, and the sauces were a great pairing. Nothing was dry or tough, everything was tender and juicy. My favorite was the heart stamina, which was a variety of chicken breast, chicken skin, and chicken heart.
We also tried the special sake cocktails. I got the hot pineapple sake. It wasn't too sweet or pineapple-y, which I liked.
Service was very prompt and kind as well!Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 3 - Nov 19, 2023
Service was very good. The host right off the bat was very communicative about wait time, menu questions, etc.
My only bad comment for their service was that they forgot our drinks.
The restaurant is very cozy.
My group of 2 got the Edomasa set and 2 sasami since we had eaten earlier.
My favorite was the tataki-meatball. My boyfriend wasn't a fan of the rice.
Overall a very nice experienceHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jasen P.San Francisco, CA011Jun 10, 2024
Decided to give this new spot a try
Deluxe Combo
The skewers were all juicy except the 4th one which was kinda chewy but overall the flavor was there
The Potato Salad was soft and delicous
Tofu Surprised me with how soft it was Dashi was a good addition to it
The Salad is alright with a sesame dressing
The broth was very clean and smooth
The rice was alright
Overall I give it a 9/10Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lorcan M.Santa Rosa, CA105691Aug 26, 20241 check-in
This is a great spot for a light feed with some draft beer. Personal favorite was the chicken liver pate which was a very pleasant surprise. Otherwise you have the typical small plates of pork, beef and chicken you would expect

I rarely write wholly negative reviews, because there usually are always some redeeming factor on any business. But in the case of Yakitori Edomasa, there was none.
First off, food was horrible, despite it being a yakitori spot, none of the food that came out has any flavor from the fire, they were more akin to steamed or boiled chicken pieces than grilled. Yakitori is supposed to be grilled over charcoal fire, but in Edomasa, I didn't even hear any sound of grilling, let alone smell or flavor. All the food came out bland and unappealing, no grill marking or anything. We pretty much went through the entire menu, so it's not like it's an off night on certain menu item.
Second, the service was pretty horrendous, we were a party of 3 with reservation, we were seated at our appointed time, no problem there, but from the moment our server took our order to the time we paid our bill, our server never checked on us nor have I seen him since. I have finished my beer part way through the meal, a good server will swing by and be like, "Would you like another glass of beer?" Well, guess what, none of that, we even had to ask for a refill on our tea! This is unacceptable. We never saw our server again and actually paid our tab with someone who looks like a manager, but he doesn't seem to want to be there either, no smile, no "how was everything?" etc.
I would not be coming back and I would not be recommending this place to any of friends. Which is unfortunate because I love yakitori and I was really hoping this would be an amazing experience considering the hype behind the restaurant being 100 years old.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Haochen Z.Houston, TX1511655Apr 20, 2024Seated via Yelp Reservations
Amazing Yakitori! Food here is just like what I had in Japan. I didn't take pic of any of the yakitori because they were finished as soon as they arrived ;)
There's a lot of competition on my list but the karaage (fried chicken) here is probably the best I have had so far. Chicken liver is quite special too.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1
