San Tung is said to be an SF staple. You have to arrive right on time (before opening) to put your name down. I have dined here 3 times now and have always been pleasantly happy with the meals. From noodles to their famous fried chicken... you can't go wrong with any dish! The staff is also extremely patient and will give you killer recs based on your preferences.
I'd recommend you try this place at least once if you like authentic Chinese.

You absolutely have to come here to try to dry fried chicken wings -- they are INCREDIBLE.
I came here on a Thursday evening around 6 with a friend and it was packed. There were a few parties waiting, but we were able to be seated right away because we were okay with sharing a table with another party of 2. They sat us at one of the big round tables with a Lazy Susan, and the other party was seated one chair away from us so we still got privacy.
We got the black bean noodles, the dry fried chicken, the dried sauteed string beans, and a side of rice. The food came out so fast (literally under 5 minutes). I assume it's because we ordered the most popular dishes and that plates of them are just constantly being made (no complaints here!).
Black bean sauce noodles: 5/5, such a good sauce and did not skimp on the shrimp, squid, or meat. Be sure to mix your noodles with the sauce first, otherwise the noodles can get stuck together as they cool. Good chewy texture!
Dried Sauteed String Beans: 5/5, perfectly cooked and not skimpy on the garlic! Reminded me of my grandmother's cooking.
Dry fried chicken: 5/5, they're famous for a reason! You get 12 and they're covered in a sticky sauce that has the right balance of sweet and kick from the peppers. They're still so crispy! Just absolutely incredible.
Rice: not much to rate for rice but a side of rice is maybe 2-3 cups of cooked rice -- plenty for multiple people.
Service was fast and efficient. They kept up with replacing our tea as needed, which was incredible given how busy the restaurant was. You NEED to come here, it's a SF classic!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 22122Sep 10, 2024
Yes. The dried fried chicken was IT. I mean... the sticky, sweet & savory sauce slathered on the wings & plate was indulgent to the max. Talk about the CRUNCH, oh my so satisfying. I tore up the plate. The line was 100% worth the wait.
We also got the pork dumplings which were amazing as well!
Small restaurant but perfect for intimate family /community dinners :)Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 9, 2024
Best wings I've EVER had, hands down. I had to close my eyes and savor the taste after trying it for the first time. The sauce is thick, garlicky, and sweet and pairs PERFECTLY with the fresh, hot fried chicken. You could tell they had just been made, so I would recommend eating in instead of getting take out.
We went around 5 pm on a Sunday, and it was about a 45 minute wait to be seated. Honestly, I would wait in line every day just for those wings. We also got the sautéed garlic green beans (a classic) and the dry black bean noodles. The green beans were definitely a little pricey but pair quite nicely with the chicken. The noodles were flavorful, but I've had better. Portion sizes are fairly generous, and we ended getting to go boxes for all three dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 325439883Sep 1, 20241 check-in
This is the first Chinese restaurant that I've been to that's famous for fried chicken wings. The wings are the main reason to come here, otherwise you can go elsewhere if you just want Chinese food.
5:30pm on a Saturday evening and there was already a line of people waiting outside. They don't take reservations so you just have to put your name on the board and wait.
The restaurant is not big so they put the tables very close together to accommodate more people and it gets very loud inside. Just be prepared to shout if you want to have a conversation.
Now back to the Original Dry Fried Chicken Wings ($17.50). I can see why people love them. The super crispy skin combined with the sweet and slightly spicy sauce is addicting. It's best eaten with white rice. The sauce is good but really sticky. It would be nice if they provided wet wipes.
I also enjoyed their Beef Soup Noodles ($17). It's a big shareable bowl and very tasty. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The Dry Black Bean Sauce Noodles ($17) were alright if you like that flavor. Pork Dumplings ($13) weren't bad either. The Dried Sautéed String Beans ($16) didn't have the crispness that I like and the sauce was a little sweet for me.
Overall, this a solid place for a meal especially if you have a craving for chicken wings. The service is not the best but I can cut them some slack because of how busy they get.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 61147221Sep 6, 2024
YEEEEEEEES.
Do it. Get the chicken wings. I wasn't expecting too much but the crisp... The sauce... The taste... I'm thinking about eating it right now... Yum...
The place can accommodate a good amount of people but they'll ask if you want to share tables with another party. The tables are big enough where we weren't uncomfortable being seated with strangers.
Other than the wings, we got the chow mein (a little too peppery), broccoli beef (yum), and the fried rice (YES).
Definitely wishing I had some wings right now...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 2, 20243 check-ins
Honestly, this is a solid place for great San Francisco Chinese food. I see a lot of people saying definitely get the world renowned dry fried chicken and here's my hot take that no one asked for: it's gone down hill. Is it good? Sure. Was it better before? Yes. Would I wait an hour or more for it? No.
Any Chinese dish gotten here is tasty and solid. dry fried string beans? Black bean noodles? Fried Fish? Cherry Pork (grandpa's favorite)? All delicious foods. It's a really good Chinese restaurant and definitely my favorite in the city but it's not worth the long wait. You can make reservations ONLY if you are a party of 7 or more.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 26, 2024
I've tried their world famous Dry chicken wings a few times, but never dined in. Make sure to stay at the restaurant if you'e waiting, it goes by fast and we almost missed our turn.
Original Dry fried chicken (5/5); This was my first time having it fresh and it definitely met the hype. The rub was drenched in flavor as it was sweet.
String beans (5/5): Very solid, definitely the best vegetable dish
Black Bean sauce noodles (5/5: the noodles were very chewy and the black bean sauce was super yummy.
I definitely enjoyed my experience here.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 1 - 34193Aug 24, 2024
Came here on a weeknight for 2 ppl at close to closing time ~7:45pm. Put our name on a long list but surprisingly seated like 15 min. Sat at a big table with other parties (which I've never done before but kudos for efficiency)
Ordered the classic dry wings, jajangmein, hot sour soup and string beans. Wayyy too much food for 2, would just order 2/3 dishes next time.
Classic dry wings were GREAT! And string beans too. I'd pass on the Jajangmein... for some reason the seasoning was lacking.
Overall would come back again and again! Super good price, super quick service!Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 1 - 5381335Aug 22, 2024
My boyfriend and I went here before we went to exploratorium after dark and it was super super worth it. We only had breakfast before this so eating at 4:30, we were super hungry
We ordered the black bean noodles and the original fried chicken because it seems it's their best sellers. The food was sooo good! I never had black bean noodles like that! The chicken was also a good mix of sweet, savory and crunchy! I loved the sweet sauce it came with!
We were there exactly at 430 and we were able to seat right away. The place started to get a bit more full while we were eating. The place had a lot of seating area and it was a good layout.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
