I loved so many things about Kingyo: The freshness of their sashimi, the vibe, the friendliness of their staff...When in Vancouver you MUST get seafood and of course sashimi and sushi. So many donburi aka rice bowl options here at Kingyo, it was really hard to pick. Ultimately I decided to go with my favorite sashimi: Toro. I got the Bluefin Tuna Kiwami Donburi which features all cuts of Bluefin Tuna sashimi, including the toro aka fatty tuna. I decided to ask if they could also add Uni in this order because I love uni, and sometimes Japanese places don't do substitutions/customizations. Their staff asked and it was ok for $12 extra...which is a fantastic deal!
The sashimi cuts are thicccccc, I never seen that back home in NYC. So fresh and delicious, totally brought me back to the Tsukiji Market in Tokyo. It came in a lunch set featuring a hearty red miso soup and pickled vegetables to clean your palette.
Also got the Salmon Aburi Pressed Sushi, which is a BC specialty style where they flambe the top of the raw fish after assembling as a sushi. Very delicious as well with many ingredients in the roll, making the taste a very complex one.
I wish Kingyo is here in NYC, I would spend my pay check there every week :)
