To Friends of YPRC,

We have some exciting news about the development of our work, which will expand our ability to provide healing and wellness support to individuals and families.

The Yetunde Price Resource Center (YPRC) was opened in 2017 to honor the life and memory of Yetunde Price, the eldest of five sisters, including Venus and Serena Williams. Tragically killed by an act of senseless violence, YPRC was established by the Williams/Price family to ensure that community members affected by trauma had the resources and support they needed to process and heal.

Over the years, our center has become a dedicated space of care and healing in Compton. We have proudly served thousands of individuals and families, offering a variety of high-quality, free programming and resources, including group grief counseling, various forms of movement and art therapy, yoga, and meditation, while also supporting numerous local organizations. We provided programs specifically to underrepresented groups in the mental health and wellness space, including support for men and boys, youth of color, and bilingual residents.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we were grateful to remain open and offer emergency relief, including meals, PPE, and other essential services. We committed to supporting other nonprofits by providing our space free of charge, ensuring that our community had access to a cozy, warm, and welcoming environment. We created a space that reflected the nurturing, loving, and compassionate qualities that Yetunde embodied as a mother, caretaker, beloved family member, and community advocate.

Compton is our hometown, and as we reflect on these accomplishments, we are filled with gratitude for the impact we have made in Compton so far. Additionally, our family’s vision and goal have always been to extend our reach to families across the country. Effective Monday, July 1, 2024, we will begin our pivot to include a national platform. To do so, we will be shutting the doors of our original location on Compton Blvd.

We are committed to minimizing the impact on the Compton community. During this period, we will maintain access to our free and high-quality online classes and will keep you informed of our short-term and long-term plans, including programming and grant opportunities. While we are expanding our reach, please be assured that our presence in Compton will always remain. Our roots and history in this community are deep, and we will continue to provide support and resources locally even as we grow on a national scale.

We are excited about this new chapter and are confident that with your continued support, we can continue to honor Yetunde’s memory. Thank you for being an important part of our journey.

Warm regards,

The Williams/Price Family and the entire YPRC Team
