We celebrate together with USAID, the community influencers who have made it their life’s mission to reach peers and lower HIV prevalence, especially among the youth. We have moved away from a one-size-fits-all approach to #HIV prevention and care, taking a more human, tailored and local approach to further bringing down HIV transmissions. The data shows that community influencers together with other localized interventions have resulted in improvements in HIV rates.

BroadReach Health Development, the implementing partner of the USAID/PEPFAR APACE program in Mpumalanga, recently showcased their work at the Rural Health Conference 2024. Abre Nel, Special Projects Manager presented on “Increasing oral PrEP awareness and demand creation in communities by DREAMS Ambassadors: Findings from Mpumalanga, South Africa”. “One of the key findings was that 15 178 AGYW were initiated on PrEP during 2022-2023 – that is a 14% year-on-year increase due to demand generation and DoH nurse capacitation”, says lead author of the poster, Dr Veni Naidu, BroadReach’s HIV Community Services Lead. #RuralHealthConference2024 #PrEP USAID

The PEPFAR USAID U=U campaign in partnership with the South African NDoH is making waves across the country, ensuring people stay on their ARVs and achieve viral suppression, the best thing people living with HIV can do to stay healthy. When you are virally suppressed, the amount of HIV in your body is Undetectable. When the virus is Undetectable, HIV will be Untransmittable, meaning it prevents transmission of HIV through sex.
