Our Detecon team recently came together for an exciting beach volleyball tournament in Cologne! We had a fantastic day at Beachclub2000, with great weather, BBQ and lots of fun. The tournament was a great opportunity to enjoy the sunshine, engage in some friendly competition, and strengthen our team spirit. The energy and enthusiasm from everyone were truly inspiring! Hier sind einige Highlights: ✅ 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗻: Von künstlicher Intelligenz bis hin zu Virtual Reality – die Live-Demos zeigten, wie technologische Lösungen bereits eingesetzt werden, um die digitale Transformation voranzutreiben. ✅ 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗳ü𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱: Das Ziel, Deutschland zu digitalisieren, wird auf vielen Ebenen ernst genommen. As Network APIs gain momentum with initiatives like CAMARA and GSMA Open Gateway, we face a critical question: Will telecommunication providers successfully bridge the gap between developer demand and network API supply, or repeat past mistakes? Read Lars Theobaldt’s insights on "Monetizing 5G with Network APIs" to explore how the market is evolving and what it takes to become a developer’s ‘love brand.’ Lars provides valuable perspectives on how telcos can profitably offer Network APIs while addressing the challenges and opportunities in this dynamic field.
Monetizing 5G with Network APIs Who will rapidly bridge & scale demand from developers and supply from telco network APIs? We are witnessing an uptake of initiatives like CAMARA & GSMA Open Gateway contributing to a hype of Network APIs. Market analysts are predicting a bright future. But wait! This reminds us of a lost CPaaS battle against Twilio, Infobib, or Sinch….will this history be repeated for Telco’s Network APIs? Disaggregation accelerates the convergence of telco functionalities into enterprise applications. Today, the ecosystems are interoperable. No one can win on its own. Infrastructure providers try to help Telcos to aggregate network APIs to finance 5G roll-outs. Hyperscalers need last mile of telco operators to use Network Exposure Functions. Telcos have realized the importance of each other as partners for scaling exposure. How to become a love-brand for Developers? All stakeholders want to become relevant to Enterprise's developers. At Detecon have determined 6 key requirements developers have on their wish-list to bake 5G-functions into their code (ref. to chart). Public use cases, like Anti-Fraud clients require a mandatory 70%- of national connectivity (MNOs + MVNOs). MNCs are requesting scalable multi-country and global solutions. For private network use cases, integration into the Enterprise Architecture is important. This puts pressure on Telco supply to align on coverage, vertical know-how and how to expose their network functions in a consumable way. How should Telcos supply Network APIs… profitably? My colleague Stefan Schnitter and I witnessed that larger operator groups can afford embracing more complex solutions. Smaller telcos are still trying to monetize previous investments; network APIs are not a priority… yet. Out of telco supply, we see three main channels to demand. 1. Direct, with Layer 4-5 complex solutions for e-commerce, logistics or finance with smart voice, omni-messaging or user profile and security center 2. API Developer Platforms, aggregating more granular exposed features in a federated way 3. Hyperscalers & Systems integrators which will provide a high yield of the most common APIs. We recommend to the smaller Telco operators to create your own economic value-added channel mix and de-risking your deployment roadmap starting with the easy, low-cost & no regret moves enabling passive functionality like KYC or device location. More complex APIs for Quality-on-demand or edge cloud in 5GSA environments should be developed with the right channel partner, and own Layer 4-5 solution capabilities. After my personal CPaaS-experience 10 ago, I’m optimistic today, that the collaboration between telcos and aggregation platform providers will improve.
