On 21 August 2009, an oil and gas leak caused by a blowout from the Montara wellhead platform occurred in the Montara oil field in the Timor Sea, just off the coast of Western Australia. The oil remained in the sea for 74 days. 15 years on we reflect on our response to this incident and the approach we took to assist with the spill. In the days and weeks following the event, we worked alongside Australian Response Organisations, which brought in 247 experienced personnel from across the oil industry. The use of dispersants was highly effective in this instance, proving successful in assisting with the natural process of biodegradation and minimising the risk of oil impacts on reefs and shorelines. #osrl #osrlremembers

Wondering what tailored training looks like at OSRL? 🧐 We recently had the privilege of hosting a major international Oil & Gas company at our Southampton base, delivering a bespoke, week-long training course designed to elevate their emergency preparedness. Our goal was clear: to strengthen the logistics section of their Global Emergency Management Team, ensuring they could effectively mobilize and integrate during a crisis, even in unfamiliar environments. With a newly formed team eager to identify and address knowledge gaps, we crafted scenario-based exercises tailored to their global operations and specific risks. Throughout the training, participants engaged in hands-on learning across a range of topics—from oil spill response fundamentals to dispersant mobilisation and non-oil spill scenarios. We also equipped them with a mental skills toolkit to enhance their performance under pressure, an invaluable asset in their day-to-day roles. This immersive experience not only enhanced their technical skills but also fostered stronger team dynamics, paving the way for more effective collaboration in real-world incidents. We're proud to continue providing high-impact, custom training solutions that prepare our partners for any challenge they might face. 🔗 Read the full article and find out more about bespoke training here: https://lnkd.in/eZcJ5iUA #osrl #preparedness #CrisisManagement #IncidentManagement
