On 21 August 2009, an oil and gas leak caused by a blowout from the Montara wellhead platform occurred in the Montara oil field in the Timor Sea, just off the coast of Western Australia. The oil remained in the sea for 74 days. 15 years on we reflect on our response to this incident and the approach we took to assist with the spill. In the days and weeks following the event, we worked alongside Australian Response Organisations, which brought in 247 experienced personnel from across the oil industry. The use of dispersants was highly effective in this instance, proving successful in assisting with the natural process of biodegradation and minimising the risk of oil impacts on reefs and shorelines. #osrl #osrlremembers

With a newly formed team eager to identify and address knowledge gaps, we crafted scenario-based exercises tailored to their global operations and specific risks.
