I guess many people feel the same way, because they know they need to post to build a brand and to get engagement BUT WHAT? Here are some ideas for you: 📢 If you follow an influential person in your industry that posts great content, share it and add you own feelings. 📃 Find an interesting related article and apply your skills, experience and thinking to it when you share. • Compelling communication – a key interview skill Regardless of whether the interview was in person or done virtually, the need to stand out from others is essential. The ability to delivery a strong pitch and to connect with your ‘audience’ is a key skill. Think about this: Winging it - 🔸 The interview panel have probably done this a few times, and there is likely some competition so winging it is not an option.  🔸 Prepare. Practice. Refine.   🔸 Well prepared = more confident 🔸 Do more than expected and there is less chance you will get caught offguard. Dumping too much information - 🔹 The key details could get lost in the mix. 🔹 Distill your skills, experience and value proposition into a few points that pack a punch 🔹 Focus on why they need you and how you would positively contribute Always be closing – a great sales technique 🔺 Close the loop between what you mean and how it could be perceived. Be specific on what the outcome will be. 🔺 Give specific examples that demonstrate a specific skill or success 🔺 End the interview with a closing statement of interest and invite clarification or a call to action. #interviewtips #performability #personalbranding

What if a company provided the interview questions ahead of time? An interview is a means to see how a person would perform in the environment. For any role, tasks are allocated with instructions and expectations. The workplace very rarely requires you to attend a meeting where you didn’t at least have a basic idea of who is attending, what would be covered and what you were expected to prepare. So, why should the interview be any different? In my view, providing the questions ahead of time has some significant benefits: ✏ It would show the interview panel how committed the person was to preparing for the interview. ✏ It would give an indication on the level of comprehension and how uncertainty was managed. ✏ It would give some insight into research capabilities. ✏ For many, it would remove the stress an already stressful situation and of what to expect allowing the interviewee to be more relaxed and possibly a more natural version of themselves. ✏ It would allow the interviewee to demonstrate the way that they present concepts ✏ It would allow for more time to be spent on follow up questions ✏ In the world we find ourselves, the ability to use resources and problem solve are vital and this would showcase some of those abilities. PS: the interviewer could always ask a “surprise” question to see how one thinks on their feet. I would love to hear the thoughts from applicants and HR or Talent Management connections. #interviews #HR #performability

  • How would you answer this in an interview: Why do you want to join this company? The answer to this is not the same as the reason you are leaving (or left) your current company. Think about it this way, which would you pick if Company A and Company B were in the same building, had the same job, title and with the exact same benefits and salary? 📒 Thoroughly research the company and see what insight you can gain 👦 Get in touch with people in your network that may work or have worked for them as their experience may be helpful (remember that perspectives and circumstances apply) 🔎 Look at people who were in that role and see what the average length of employment was and what their growth looked like 💡 Check out their values and any social projects they are involved with. Do any of these align with your own? 📈 Consider how this role will contribute to your development and what you think you could deliver in return? 📍 Are there perhaps special projects that would be of interest to you or will the industry/product give you different skills and learning? 📣 Do you have an affinity for the brand and what it stands for? What other factors would you add? #interviewtips #personalbranding #performability

  • Behavioural interview questions are common and there are so many, so it is worth working through a couple and keeping it as part of your interview prep arsenal. Here's one to try: Talk us through a time when you needed to think on your feet to get out of a difficult situation. 📑 The answer is best when it is aligned to the role you are interviewing for. When reading the spec, consider situations that you may have experience that would relate to this space. 📔 Unpack the scenario to be sure you have explained the situation and the context surrounding it. Does it explain the the level, tight deadlines, severity, sensitivity etc. 💡 Next, list all the research, decisions and actions that you took. Remember to include delegation (where applicable) and the need to utilise other resources. ✏ Explain the outcome and the lessons taken that could prevent this in the future. ⁉ Be prepared for follow up questions and role play some of these as part of your preparation. 🚫 Keep in mind that the question could be a situation that didn't get resolved, so have some good examples and lessons in mind. #interviewtips #performability

  • Name three choices that will enhance your career progress Such a great interview question and even if this doesn’t come up, the thought process around it should give you some great direction on how to move forward. Here are some tips to get you started: 📑 List the roles you aspire to move in to and compare the requirements of these with your current experience and qualifications/training. Where is the gap and what do you need to do so address this? 📚 Give some thought to the alternatives to the above, what other roles would you be suitable for? 🔖 Consider the skills required for these positions, if you haven’t had this exposure how would you go about it? 🖥 Think about what will be in demand in the future taking technological advances into consideration. How are you working toward this? 🙄 Could any soft skills be improved and if so, how? ❓ Has there been any decision you have made in the past that has set you back and how would you redo this if given the chance? ⏩ What lessons have you learnt along the way that has shaped how you think now? ✔ What decisions or steps have you made that has led to growth and development? Could these be replicated? #interviewtips #personalbranding #performability

  • Describe yourself in 3 words. Seems like such a simple interview question and you could take the easy way and give a standard response or you could use it as an opportunity to really position your strengths for that specific job at that specific company. Here are some ways to think about it when doing your prep: 📗 Look at your research - what do you know about the company, people and the job? 🔦 Which word would sum up your suitability for this position? 📢 Which value most resonates with you? 🔎 What one word would sum up your success stories? ⚡ Which word would highlight a key related strength? P.S: ✅ Be ready to expand on your words so have some examples and an explanation ready. ✅ Ask if there is any one of them you could expand on for them #interviewtips #personalbranding #performability
