He appealed to other large-scale mining companies to emulate the initiative being demonstrated by FQM. Good mines look after the animals and ecosystems where they operate. We believe in looking after the natural spaces in the places where we work. It is why we're involved with the West Lunga National Park in Zambia. We have invested over $6 million in conservation activities in and around the West Lunga Management Area since 2014. During our tenure of funding and support for the national park, we've not only helped regenerate the wildlife populations, but we're also actively rehabilitating the pangolin population to save it from extinction. When we see good mines, they look after the ecosystems where they operate. #Sustainability #Environment #Mining

Empowering Farmers through Resilience: The Success of the Chili Out-grower Scheme During the 2022/2023 farming season, Trident Foundation Limited, in collaboration with Hematon Agro Services, launched the Chili Out-grower Scheme, a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing income, profitability, and sustainability in farming. This innovative pilot project introduced chilli, a drought-tolerant crop, to smallholder farmers in the mine catchment area, promoting crop diversification and economic resilience. Initially embraced by 20 enthusiastic farmers, the scheme encountered significant challenges, notably a severe drought that hindered crop establishment and led some farmers to withdraw. However, the unwavering commitment of Trident Foundation Limited and Hematon Agro Services, coupled with the resilience of the remaining farmers, yielded remarkable results. Despite adversity, Hematon Agro Services successfully aggregated 483 kilograms of dry chilli, achieving a competitive sale price of ZMW30 per kilogram and recording profit margins as high as 70%. Beyond financial gains, the project exemplifies the spirit of resilience and community empowerment. The Chili Outgrower Scheme serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that with support and determination, smallholder farmers can overcome challenges and thrive. Trident Foundation Limited and Hematon Agro Services continue to expand this transformative initiative, promoting climate-resilient farming practices that ensure sustainable livelihoods for communities. As we celebrate this milestone, we anticipate further growth and impact from this inspiring project.

Both 17-year-old Bentoe of Trident, and 17-year-old Rhoida of Kabitaka, will represent Zambia in the U19 Single Sculls events and will be Zambia’s first-ever representatives at the U19 segment of the Rowing World Championships. Meanwhile, Rhoida, whose achievements include winning Gold in an 8 at the Kansanshi Sprints Regatta (September 2022), securing first place in a quad and a double, and second place in an 8 at the South African National Championships in 2023 and most recently, earning a Gold in singles, and Silver in both a quad and an 8 at the Zambian National Rowing Regatta last year, will be hoping to replicate her form at the international stage. Young Golfers Shine at a Junior Tournament On a sunny Saturday morning, 80 talented young golfers gathered at Kansanshi Golf Course in Solwezi, Zambia, for the highly anticipated BIA Group Kansanshi Junior Golf Tournament, sponsored in collaboration with Kansanshi Mining Plc. The excitement was palpable as these junior golf enthusiasts, aged between 4 and 18, prepared to showcase their skills and compete for the top spot. MP Manager of Facilities and Services, Corne Janse Van Rensburg, who attended the event on behalf of KMP management, remarked, "You have demonstrated some amazing talent today. Congratulations on that. Remember, it isn’t about success or failure; it’s about learning the fundamentals of golf and, more importantly, improving with every stroke and putt. We appreciate the encouragement and support from parents. Your guidance truly benefits the golfers' development both on and off the course." BIA Group Representative Dirk Dewet expressed their gratitude for the continued support from Kansanshi Mining Plc, stating that the golf day was a small token of their appreciation to give back to the community and engage the participants, some of whom may go on to play professionally or form lasting connections on the golf course. After a thrilling day of golf, the winners walked away with school vouchers and golf kits. The Junior Golf Tournament was a resounding success, showcasing the talent and passion of Zambia's young golfers from Nkana, Kansanshi, Nchanga, Trident Country Club, and Kilelabanda Orphanage, who are all part of the Kansanshi Development Junior programme. The event provided a platform for these junior athletes to develop their skills, build friendships, and create unforgettable memories. As the golfing community looks forward to future events, one thing is clear: the future of golf in Zambia is bright! Nkumbu Chonya, Vice-Captain of Kansanshi Golf Club; George Nzoma, Club Captain; and Kansanshi Golf Junior Coach Aaron Simfukwe were also in attendance. #KansanshiJuniorGolf #JuniorGolfDevelopment #FQMSports
