Don't waste your money

I bought this product and it filtered water great I loved it to start with. I had gotten a small amount of water on it and wiped it off immediately but to no avail, it had already shorted out and ran till the battery was dead and would not recharge or restart. So I ordered a replacement I literally got three drops of water on the top of it because I didn't get the filter screwed down 100% tight but I noticed that immediately and dried it up. That also done no good the machine instantly freaked out kept the light on and the motor running until it died. Now I have to pay for two water filtration units because I forgot to send the first one back in time. Hit those filter water great but the slightest touch of moisture and the machine shorts out and dies.

Dispite any things I don't like overall I'm very happy with this filter. Aa title suggests it's heavier than most filters. TBH most my camp buddies use pills or straws which weigh a fraction of this. BUT everyone prefers water from my filter knowing how much more it filters than theirs. So IMO it's worth the weight.
It's slow yes, BUT faster water flow might damage the filters & as this has such fine filtration the slow speed is not a draw back but rather purposeful.
The battery could last longer, well if my filter wasn't the most used filter when my group camps that might be part of the issue. I do wish it weighed less but I would not trade it for another filter that I know of. Water left in the hoses froze but the rubbery hose allowed me to just squeeze it out. The bag it comes with isn't big enough for prefilter and hoses but it fits well in titanium drinking cup. I'd love to make my backpack lighter but this isn't where I would compromise. I trust the water from this filter to drink regardless of the source. I have never felt that way about any other filter at any price

I just completed a multi day kayaking fishing hunting and camping trip about 50 total miles (33 on the river paddling and 17 hiking a 3600 acre ranch in East Texas hunting wild hogs.4/6/2022 - 4/9/2022 Clean water goes fast on these trips from the pots after pots of coffee, freeze dried meals, regular drinking water and cleaning of cooking equipment. i probably went thought 10 plus gallons of water over the 3 days 2 nights. it is far from ideal to transport this much water as this would surpass the weight restrictions of my kayaks 350 lbs limit.

The Sabine River in East Texas is a very muddy river due to the miles and miles of red and grey clay, sand and iron ore rock that it flows through. Just dipping your hand into the water you lose sight of your hand after an inch or two under the surface. I was able to fill my coffee pot and jetboil cup up in about a min each after setting up the hoses. The water going into the pre-filter was a reddish brown color and the fresh water coming out was as clear as the water from my home tap. I did take extra precautions and boil any water for 10 min before using it just to cover all my bases.

Battery life: I originally charged this back in January and set it to the side until this trip. Using this over the 3 day trip i did not use but about 25% of the battery.

this is great for thru hikers, river kayak campers, overlanders or anyone that will be away from clean water for extended time. i will be dependent on this filter for 11 days 4/30/2022 on a 125 mile kayaking trip.

I barely got to use it for 2 test runs. 1 as normal. 2nd was to try testing another motor to supply pump power from behind to help keep stable flow and using 3 main filters. a GVDV filter to it's main motor, The GVDV motor to the inlet/dirty water suction port of the BKLES2000, The internal BKLES filter, Then to the outlet port to a Lifestraw Flex filter. Worked semi ok. Expect that the GVDV had to much push pressure and started leaking over the internal BKLES filter's internal Oring it has. So i stopped. But before my 2nd try my unit did end up getting knocked by falling off my bicycle as i was doing some pack testing. So it was unsure of what caused it to break down. But i think it's more due to it's falling.

Reason being. my unit randomly turned on it's LED automatically. I decide to tear it open and look in question to WHY it started failing. Turns out. The wall behind the internal filter routing tunnel is HOLLOW. So the whole can is HOLLOW. Making the design of the Motor and battery inside the hollow shell only being held down by the bottom thin plastic. There is 0 side plastic support. Making it that if you drop this just little. The motor/battery being hold by thin plastic will crack the dirty water inlet hose routing point and leak water into the motor/battery area and fill up and up onto the circuit board and causing it to freak out or other problems. It's more lucky there aren't mention of fires or sparks from others units due to the fact that the unit fills up with water on a EXPOSED 18650 cell inside the housing.

Another problem i also found from the filter pieces from the internal filter cartage. The PPcotton filter isn't of it's own. It's more of a sock over the densely packed carbon filter with a pinch of the kinetic degradation fluxion on the bottom. And i mean a PINCH. It isn't fully filled like in the picture. It's more just like 2 salt pinches and stuffed at the bottom. Which seems to make it pretty useless to really capture much filtration ability.

So you're more just getting Pre UF, Densely packed Carbon/Charcoal filter, Post UF filter in most cases. Since again the PPCotton filter is just really warped over the carbon filter more then a thick layer sitting at the start of the internal filter as shown.

Overall it is a nice design and performs great if ran on it's own. But unless you treat it like a newborn baby and give it a pillow. It is easily damaged by any kind of tiny drops. Hopefully BKLES/GreeShow can fix this hollow can design with a more supported design in the future. It is a nice product but is really weak to drops. And for a device that is meant to be used out in the wild. That is something is likely due to happen at random and a device that is filtering water needs to have a key point of strength to handle the beats and rolls that outdoors have in store.

Hose in filtered water

I haven't had it for very long but it appears (after a minor modification), it may be more convenient then the Sawyer squeeze. The Sawyer squeeze filters out water quite nicely also but you'd have to fill the bag then squeeze out the water through the filter every time. This gets tedious so I've decided to go with this electronic solution. The only problem is the hose is bare and if used without any modification, it would need to be cleaned quite frequently, as for with the original design, it will be immersed in the container where the freshwater will be filtering into. If the hose is contaminated, grimy, etc. (which I found can be quite easy especially with it being placed conveniently in the same bag as the intake hose), then the water doesn't seem so filtered.

So what I did was print out a 3D clip so that I can clip the hose onto the lip of whichever container I'm having the water filter into so that it does not interact with the water whatsoever. I think they should consider this as a possible accessory to include with perhaps a future model. One may also search for one of those fish tank hose holders that would hold the hose in place as well. Is just seems like without this bit of accessory the act of filtering the water becomes rather tedious as you'd have to either prevent the outtake hose from becoming contaminated or you'd have to clean the hose quite frequently especially after it rubs up against something such as fabric, dirt among others.

I used it on some pond water it got a good amount clean but the water was obviously still discolored a bit, I couldn't say wether it worked without using a pH meter... I'd recommended buying one with this but it did above 50% of the job and the water I tested it with was pretty gross so on tap water or mild rainwater it may work a bit better.

Gatorade Zero ?

Yep, I tried filtering just regular store bought gatorade to see what would happen and how well it would be filtered. I was very impressed! The filtered gatorade was significantly clearer than the store bought gatorade (compared with both the filtered bottle and a fresh one), and tasted significantly less sweet. I would guess only 1/3-1/4th of the original syrup sugars made it through the filtering. The red dye compound may be so water soluble/small that the filter cannot remove it, but I'm not really concerned about food colorants.

Would I trust it to filter water out of a lake or river to drinkable state without boiling it first? No.
Would I use it and drink the water it filtered in case of an emergency? Yes.

One interesting thing is that this filter did actually filter out perfectly clear water for a few seconds before starting to output some the red dye mixed in with it. Its possible I didn't use it perfectly despite reading the manual (worth noting that the manual asks you to not use any water with visual impurities in it...which, might defeat the point of this product?). Either way, this was a fun little experiment to see how well it can filter water, and I'm definitely impressed!
