Sinn Fein's Pat Doherty has been re-elected as MP for West Tyrone.

Mr Doherty polled 18,050 votes, giving him a majority of 10,685 and retaining the seat he first won for the party in 2005.

The DUP's Tom Buchanan was second with 7,365 votes. Ross Hussey of Ulster Conservative and Unionists - New Force was third with 5,281 votes.

The SDLP's Joe Byrne received 5,212 votes, Alliance's Michael Bower 859 and independent Ciaran McClean, 508.

Mr Doherty said the election was a vote in favour of the peace process.

"If a Tory government think they're going to be a threat to any of that, then they have to think again," he said.

"Because the Good Friday Agreement and referenda was voted on throughout all of Ireland and that's an absolute commitment from the people of Ireland."
