At least four tornadoes spawned by the remnants of Hurricane Beryl tore through parts of Western New York on Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service Buffalo office said in two Thursday updates.
The latest addition was confirmation that a twister touched down shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Town of Aurora, cutting a swath 400 yards wide and 1.5 miles long over five minutes from West Falls to Griffins Mills. It snapped tree limbs and caused property damage that included tearing a roof and blowing out windows of a modern horse barn on Mill Road.
Winds peaked at an estimated 110 mph, a force matched by a twister that touched down shortly after noon in the Chautauqua County town of Arkwright.
Another whisked through the Genesee County towns of Darien and Alexander from 1:42 to 1:46 p.m., blazing a 50-yard path over a mile that caused tree damage along Halsten and Dodgeson roads. Its winds peaked at 75 mph.

That followed a tornado at 12:40 p.m. in the Town of Eden, with winds reaching 85 mph, the weather service said. Damage from that tornado was reported on Gary Drive, Sauer Road and at the intersection of Jennings Road and Kickbush Gulf, the weather service said.
Standing amid the debris on his Eden farm Wednesday afternoon, Don Mammoser described the tornado he experienced in one word: "wild."

Town of Hanover highway department workers clear debris on Route 39, after a tree fell across the road and a car drove into it as severe weather remnants from storm Beryl ripped through Western New York on Wednesday.
There also were several reports of damage outside the tornado zones in the Southtowns, Southern Tier and Chautauqua County as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl barreled through Western New York. One person in Forestville was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a car hit a downed tree, said Forestville Fire Chief Kyle Barthel. There were no reports of injuries to people in Erie County.
Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia on Thursday afternoon urged those who don't live in East Eden to avoid the area as crewed continue to clean up from the storm. Almost all roads are open to traffic, he said, though State Route 75 (Sisson Highway) remained closed from E. Church Street to New Oregon Road.
Garcia urged residents to stay out of damaged structures and motorists to avoid downed trees, power lines and standing water remains on the roads.
“I would like to thank the first responders, public works employees and utility crews that have been working diligently since the storm hit yesterday afternoon,” the sheriff said in a statement. “The damage caused by this tornado is heartbreaking, but I have no doubt the people living in the affected neighborhoods will show their resiliency as they clean up and rebuild."
At the height of the severe weather, New York State Electric & Gas reported that 26,000 customers were without power, most of which had been restored by Wednesday evening.
"Great job by @NYSEandG crews to work throughout the day to restore power to the affected areas," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz wrote on X late Wednesday. "After having 26,000 out, only 1 customer is still without power."
West Falls resident Ray Kaminski describes the suspected tornado that tore through his 7 acre property.
In West Falls, numerous trees were down on Ray Kaminski's property.
"It came through here and it just tore everything right down," said Kaminski, whose home also sustained damage.
"It was pretty nasty,” he added.

West Falls homeowner Ray Kaminski takes a closer look at the tree that sheared off the corner of his house.
Beryl, the earliest-forming Category 5 Atlantic hurricane on record, made landfall in the Caribbean on July 1 before sweeping through the Gulf of Mexico, eventually making landfall in Texas before dissipating into a post-tropical storm. It continued to move northeast, heading into Western New York on Wednesday morning as the region, along with much of the Northeast, got drenched with rain and battered with strong wind gusts.
Poloncarz relayed reports of damage in both Eden and West Falls. He said he was in contact with Gov. Kathy Hochul and officials from the Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services.
"Unfortunately a few homes may be total losses," Poloncarz wrote in a post. "The county has offered to assist any homeowners/residents who are in need of shelter for tonight and future."
