Ingredients
- 1tablespoon soaked chia seeds (1 teaspoon dry unsoaked)
- 1heaped tablespoon cashews (½ ounce), soaked overnight in water and drained
- 1heaped cup blackberries (about 5 ounces)
- ¾cup limeade (see below)
- 1tablespoons geranium syrup (see below) or 1 teaspoon rose water
- 2ice cubes
- ½cup water
- ½cup sugar
- 1 to 1¼cups fresh lime juice (to taste)
- 4 to 5cups water, to taste (or for a variation, sparkling water)
Limeade
Preparation
- Step 1
To make the limeade, combine ½½ cup water and ½½ cup sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and allow to cool, then combine with the lime juice and additional 4 to 5 cups water.
- Step 2
For To make geranium syrup, make the syrup as directed above, and when you take it off the heat, pour ½½ cup over 1 sprig rose geranium and allow to steep for 30 minutes. Remove the rose geranium sprig from the syrup.
- Step 3
To soak the chia seeds, place in a jar or bowl and add 4 tablespoons water for every tablespoon of chia seeds. Place in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. The seeds and water will be become gelatinous. Soak the cashews overnight and drain.
- Step 4
Scoop up a tablespoon of seeds with the gooey liquid and place in a blender (don’t worry, your smoothie won’t have this consistency). Add the remaining ingredients and blend for 1 full minute at high speed. Strain through a medium-mesh strainer and serve.
- Advance preparation: The syrups will keep for a few weeks. Limeade will hold for a few hours. The smoothie should be served right away.

Cooking Notes
I believe there are a few typos in the instructions: '1/2 1/2', for example. Also, I don't understand why the limeade will only 'hold' for a few hours. I make homemade limeade and lemonade all the time and it does just fine in the fridge. Why would anyone make 4-5 cups for one smoothie? I don't understand.
This recipe still contains all the errors as noted two years ago by @Tracy B (thank you, Tracy), to which I'll add: 1) the order of steps should be changed—as with the cashews, chia seeds, too, need a long soaking time, and should therefore come first; and 2) for newer cooks, a note on specifics of soaking the cashews would also be helpful. In the meantime, the ingredients sound good, so rather than rely on the recipe, I'll use it as a starting point and experiment.

Don’t strain the seeds.... keep the fiber.
