This is as easy at it sounds — almost effortless, really. Just be sure to use a vermouth you really love (I’m a fan of dark, robust, earthy Spanish ones) and keep the bottle in the fridge.

Can you tell me what you buy? I wouldn't know a "Nice" vermouth if I tripped over it. Thanks.

If you're not mixing the vermouth with anything else other than soda water, could you do much better than Carpano Antica Formula?

Try adding liquor to your favorite kombucha. Whiskey + blood orange; gin or vodka + lemon ginger; rum + pineapple. Very easy, low sugar, carbonation, and healthy bacteria!

Kombucha & Campari is a winner!!

I had never had this before I read the article, Cocktails the Lazy Way. But this is so good, I make it all the time now. I buy nice vermouth and this drink really shows it off. Sure it's easy, but this is also pretty elegant. I'm thinking about serving this as our signature cocktail at Thanksgiving.

Sandy - La Quintinye Vermouth Royal is very good vermouth from France. I've never tried a Spanish vermouth that the author mentions, but La Quintinye is outstanding for a manhattan or martini. They have a rouge, blanc and extra dry. I've never tried this cocktail, but both the blanc or rouge would probably be quite good here.

Vermouth di Torino from Cocchi is my go-to. Fantastic with soda, Campari or by itself.

I've started doing something similar with Aperol...1 part Aperol, 1 part soda water, large ice cube, and juice of half a lemon. I'll try this next!

We like drinking Lestau Vermut from Spain. Easy to source from Wine Searcher.com if you cannot find it at your local store.

What a lovely cocktail. I wish I’d been drinking this all summer.

Better, and even simpler, pour chilled Carpano Antica Formula over some ice, drop in a thin slice of orange and congratulate yourself on fixing yourself one of the best drinks ever!

Fernet and Kosmic Kombucha Cherry Bomb Aperol and grapefruity kombucha flavors Gin and turmeric kombucha

I added a tablespoon or so of olive brine to excellent effect

Bravo spirits pink vermouth is my favorite summer “sipping” vermouth. I keep it in the fridge so it’s ready to be served on ice or with bubbly water. Sweet and pretty.

Simple and refreshing.

There are lovely red vermouths available from Spain, Italy and France. Soda not needed. Serve on the rocks with a orange slice and as many green olives as you like on a bamboo stir stick.

Carpano Antica is our go to vermouth for this drink - perfect for summer.

Add a tablespoon (or two) of olive brine to make it dirty… it’ll knock ya socks off!

I can recommend the craft vermouth one of our Livermore CA wineries does. occasiowinery.com - fabulous for drinking (as opposed to the cooking vermouth at the grocery store....)

My favorite vermouth, both dry and sweet, is Noilly Prat.

This is close to my favorite cocktail, the classic red Dubonnet and soda with a twist of lemon peel. Delicious and low in alcohol.

Hendrick's Gin and Capano Antica Formula, 1 to 1, with a couple dashes of lemon, is my cocktail of choice!

You can do a lot with this concept if you're not beginning with great vermouth that's worth showing off in a simple recipe. My current favorite variation is white vermouth (Cinzano is fine) and preserved lemon (as you'd use in Moroccan cooking), topped up with tonic water.

I use Berto vermouth which has a slight bitterness and always use a slice of orange pressed into the glass so some juice comes out, and sparkling mineral water rather than soda. Try for imported sweet vermouth as the American versions are generally too sweet.

skip the vermouth, use averna

So simple, so good, I made with Dolin blanc vermouth and mandarin soda water, refreshing!

Vermouth di Torino from Cocchi is my go-to. Fantastic with soda, Campari or by itself.
