About Nigeria

The escalation of violence between all parties in north-eastern Nigeria since 2014 has resulted in mass displacement and deprivation in the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. To better understand the scope of displacement and assess the needs of affected populations, IOM has been implementing its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) programme starting July 2014, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs). The activities of the DTM project, which consist of conducting baseline assessments and registration for IDPs living in camps and host communities, are currently being carried out in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

The information collected will contribute to the provision of a comprehensive profile of the IDP population in Nigeria which will be shared with all relevant stakeholders and will contribute towards enabling the government of Nigeria and humanitarian partners identify the needs of Nigeria's displaced population and develop interventions for providing IDPs necessary assistance.

Between 5 - 11 August 2024, a total of 1,536 new arrivals were recorded at locations in Benue State. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Guma, Gwer-west, Kwande and Ukum local government areas (LGAs) of Benue State.

In June, 289 alerts were recorded. Of these, 241 alerts (83%) were event-related, while 48 alerts (17%) were related to movements.

Nigeria — Heavy Rainfall Flash Report Borno State (12 August 2024)

On 06 August 2024, heavy rainfall caused significant damage in several camps within the Dikwa and Kala/Balge local government areas (LGAs) of Borno State, including Fulatari, Ajari/Bulamari and Klaguru camps.

Nigeria — North-east — Mobility Tracking Round 47 IDP and Returnee Report (June 2024)

In Round 47, a total of 2,271,987 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were identified in 468,013 households. This signifies a slight decrease of one per cent (or 33,348 individuals) compared to Round 46 when 2,305,335 IDPs were recorded (December 2023).

Nigeria — Transhumance Tracking Tool Report — Flow Monitoring Dashboard 6 — Kaduna and Katsina states (May 2024)

In May 2024, Transhumance Flow Monitoring tool identified 1,912 herders in Kaduna State and 172 herders in Katsina State. The herd count was estimated at 8,376 for Kaduna State and 4,358 for Katsina State.

In June, 259 alerts were recorded. Of these, 198 alerts (76%) were event-related, while 61 alerts (24%) were related to movements. In Adamawa state, all alerts in Demsa, Girei, Lamurde, Numan, and Shelleng LGAs were event-related.

Nigeria — Flood and Heavy Rainfall Flash Report Borno State (24 July 2024)

On 22 July 2024, a flash flood caused by heavy rainfall resulted in significant damage to several camps within the Dikwa and Mafa local government areas (LGAs) of Borno State, including Fulatari, Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), and Masarmari camps.

Between 15 and 21 July 2024, a total of 2,615 new arrivals were recorded at locations in Adamawa and Borno states.

On 10 July 2024, armed bandits attacked the communities of Ruwan Godiya and Kwakware Na Babba in Ruwan Godiya ward of Faskari Local Governement Area (LGA) in Katsina State. There were reports of eight injuries and one fatality.
