    Look at the advertisement by a real estate company, selling plots in and around Ayodhya, probably you would be surprised. This is what tourism can do to the ecosystem of the city. Tourism is and will remain one of the focus areas of the government, so a continued policy push. The air connectivity which has increased multifold in the last few years is an indication of that. Now how does one take advantage of spending which is being done on the whole tourism sector. Hotel stocks are a very obvious way of doing it and they have also moved up sharply. However, when an investor takes exposure only in a hotel stock, he is taking exposure to high end leisure and business tourism only. There are travelers who travel by train and stay in medium size hotels which are not even listed. How does one take exposure to that traveler ? By taking exposure to a broad set of stocks which form a part of the tourism ecosystem.

    Addressing the question on the hotel industry, we find that it has been reaching new highs in terms of occupancy rates. Previously, 65 percent was considered standard for the hotel industry. However, for the first time, we are seeing 70 percent occupancy rates in hotels, marking a new record after a very long time. This bodes very well for tourism.
