Develop a “data mindset” with this practical, two-week course that shows you how to harness the power of data. Designed by The Economist’s senior data journalists, this course is particularly suited to anyone who needs to review, analyse or prepare reports and presentations using data, or use data to influence others. You’ll explore data visualisation, understand how to use numbers effectively to solve real problems and, importantly, learn how to spot and avoid common pitfalls.
About the programme
This online course is small but mighty, enabling you to work with data to enhance your personal understanding and professional practices. You’ll learn how to deal with data, spot stories beneath the numbers and avoid common errors. Explore ways to depict different types of datasets to convey clear, compelling messages, whether the aim is to inform or persuade others, or to make decisions. The course enables a different way of thinking about the world and its problems, and encourages being sceptical about what the numbers appear to be saying. The course offers the opportunity to learn with a global cohort and uses videos, podcasts and interactive material to enhance understanding.

The Economist’s team of data journalists brings specialist insights to the learning experience through articles, infographics, tutor-reviewed assignments, videos and podcasts.

Assignments and case studies are designed to stimulate and challenge, giving participants opportunities to unearth stories in data and improve their visualisation skills.
