Vennemann’s Steeplechase Victory Highlights Track & Field’s Day Two at MAC Outdoor Championships

Vennemann completes 3K steeplechase in 9:01.26 as men, women both in top-three

DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Linus Vennemann's 3,000m steeplechase victory highlighted the Eastern Michigan University track and field programs' day two at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex Friday, May 10. After day two, the women stand in second with 47.5 points and the men are tied for third with 49 points.

Vennemann (Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany/Gymnasium "In der Wüste") completed the 3,000m steeplechase in a personal-best 9:01.26.

Meet Notes
» The Eagles had one individual champion on the second day of competition. 
» Eastern earned 18 personal-best performances with the men seeing 14 and the women posting four. 
» Nine Eagles advanced to the final heat in their respective event, five of which coming from the men's team and four from the women's.  
» EMU notched 14 top-three outings. The men secured nine and the women captured five. 

How it Happened - Men
Vennemann's 3,000m steeplechase win concluded the night for the Eagles as the senior raced to a personal-best 9:01.26 clip.

Samuel Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary) earned a third-place finish in the decathlon with a personal-best 6,425 points. Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) also performed well in the event as he slotted fifth with 5,823 points. Together, the freshman multi duo posted eight top-10 decathlon marks in program history on the second day of competition.

Callum Robinson (Goderich, Ontario/St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School/Simon Fraser) and Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) moved on in the 400m dash with finishes in 47.48 and 47.85 seconds, respectively. 

In the 800m run, seniors Ronnie Brandal (Huron, Ohio/Huron) and Marcus Kemp (Kitchener, Ontario/St. Mary's Kitchener/Providence) advanced to the finals with 1:52.65 and 1:53.00 finishes, respectively.
 
How it Happened - Women
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) advanced in the 100m dash after finishing in 11.71 seconds while Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) and Makiya Worthy (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way/St. Martin's/Oakland) both moved on in the 400m, crossing in 54.61 and 54.98 seconds, respectively.
 
Also advancing to the finals were Tabatha Walford (Northamptonshire, England/Bishop Stopford/Nevada) and Chloie Musta (Mesick, Mich./Cadillac), who advanced to the finals in the 800m run with finishes of 2:10.27 and 2:10.37, respectively.

Anita Zaro (Timisoara, Romania/Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) earned third with a personal-best 10:24.26 in the 3,000m steeplechase. 

The Eagles saw a third-place finish in the pole vault by Fleur van der Linden (Drunen, Netherlands/d'Oultremont College), who cleared 3.85m (12-07.50), and a 3.65m (11-11.75) fourth-place vault from Maura Lane (Cary, N.C./Panther Creek/Campbell)

Antonia Woods (Winchester, Ohio/Groveport Madison) was fourth in the long jump by flying a career-best 5.97m (19-07.00).

Maleah Scott's (Farmington, Mich./Farmington)  day two heptathlon performance was highlighted by a third-place effort in a personal-best 2:26.33, which ranks sixth in EMU heptathlon history.
