Feature news
- Two new parser functions will be available this week:
{{#dir}}
and{{#bcp47}}
. These will reduce the need forTemplate:Dir
andTemplate:BCP47
on Commons and allow us to drop 100 million rows from the "what links here" database. Editors at any wiki that use these templates, can help by replacing the templates with these new functions. The templates at Commons will be updated during the Hackathon at Wikimania. [1][2] - Communities can request the activation of the visual editor on entire namespaces where discussions sometimes happen (for instance Wikipedia: or Wikisource: namespaces) if they understand the known limitations. For discussions, users can already use DiscussionTools in these namespaces.
- The tracking category "Pages using Timeline" has been renamed to "Pages using the EasyTimeline extension" in TranslateWiki. Wikis that have created the category locally should rename their local creation to match.
Project updates
- Editors who help to organize WikiProjects and similar on-wiki collaborations, are invited to share ideas and examples of successful collaborations with the Campaigns and Programs teams. You can fill out a brief survey or share your thoughts on the talkpage. The teams are particularly looking for details about successful collaborations on non-English wikis.
- The new parser is being rolled out on Wikivoyage wikis over the next few months. The English Wikivoyage and Hebrew Wikivoyage were switched to Parsoid last week. For more information, see Parsoid/Parser Unification.

- There will be more than 200 sessions at Wikimania this week. Here is a summary of some of the key sessions related to the product and technology area.

- The latest quarterly Language and Internationalization newsletter is available. It includes: New design previews for Translatable pages; Updates about MinT for Wiki Readers; the release of Translation dumps; and more.

WikiProject Notre Dame Invite
editHey! I noticed you are a Notre Dame alumnus, hence I wanted to invite you to join our project. Also, I know you're already an active member of the project, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm currently in the effort to re-boot the project and make it more productive than ever.
Hello, Funandtrvl! We are looking for editors to join WikiProject Notre Dame, an outreach effort which aims to support development of Notre Dame related articles in Wikipedia. We thought you might be interested, and hope that you will join us. If you are interested in joining, please visit the project page, and add your name to the list of participants, check out our To Do list, and join the discussion on our talk page. Thanks!!! |
- Just out of curiosity, I know you're an alumnus, were you an undergrad? What dorm? Eccekevin (talk) 19:57, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I graduated in 1980 (B.A., Economics). I lived in Lewis Hall. My M.B.A. is from Loyola Chicago in 1982. It was before ND had a MBA program in downtown Chicago, otherwise I would have gone to ND for that also. At the time, they only had a full-time program in Indiana, and although I was accepted, I turned it down so I could move back to my hometown in the W. Suburbs and commute downtown to Loyola's Graduate School of Business. Cheers! Funandtrvl (talk) 20:54, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

- That's great! I hope you get to visit often. Also, if you're interested, the current Lewis Hall section Hall is severly lacking. I found good sources , but I don't have time to work on it. If you want, that's definitely something that has to be done Archives[3]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eccekevin (talk • contribs) 05:39, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
WikiProject Notre Dame
editHi Funandtrvl!
Thanks!!! |
I know that in the past you've been an active Wikiproject Notre Dame. I am currently revamping the project and I'm looking for other people interested in contributing. We are in dire need, since Notre Dame has so much to be covered, but very few editors on it. There is so much to do, either adding content, or editing, or assessing. If you wanted to collaborate, there is the updated to do list (you can find it in the invite box). Are you an alumnus/a of the University? Please feel free to ask me for anything!
Best,
Precious anniversary

WikiProject Notre Dame
editHello Funandtrvl, I just wanted to thank you for your work for the WikiProject Notre Dame. I am currently making an effort to revamp it and improve all articles. I was wondering if you could help out, since any and all help is needed. If you want, you can check out the To Do list for the top priority, or take your own initiative and work on what's needed the most. The top priority articles in bad condition, like the colleges or the grotto, need a lot of help too. Additionally, photos or translation in other languages are also great.
Best and thank once more for your work on Wikipedia, Eccekevin (talk) 02:35, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- thanks- I will take a look at it! Funandtrvl (talk) 17:50, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

editThank you for all your work on improving our London pub articles. Edwardx (talk) 12:02, 16 August 2020 (UTC) |
- @Edwardx: Thank you! I've been reminiscing at the same time that I've been reading & updating the navbox and articles! Funandtrvl (talk) 18:23, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- Probably best to stick to virtual visits to London's pubs these days. At least we can still enjoy beer at home, even real ale in a bottle. Cheers. Edwardx (talk) 20:18, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

editI don't have an appropriately shaped barnstar but just wanted to say thanks for all your good work in the portal namespace. I watch quite a few of its pages, mainly to counter vandalism, and most of the good edits that I skip over are yours. Certes (talk) 22:47, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Certes:, thank you for the kind message! I've tried to clean up pages, and fix the problems, as much as I can. Cheers Funandtrvl (talk) 00:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Sourcing
editSince you are part of the WikiProject:Notre Dame, would you help me source some pages that risk being deleted/redirected, like Alumni Hall, Badin Hall, Carroll Hall, and Keenan Hall. I am trying to improve them to make sure they pass GNG. Thank you.Eccekevin (talk) 10:12, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: Eccekevin, this clearly violates canvasing for votes at AfD. You are free to post to Wikiproject talk pages, but canvasing individual editors you feel will support your position is a significant violation. // Timothy :: talk 10:26, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

The Points Guy help

I posted a few suggested updates to the Talk page Talk:The_Points_Guy#Proposed_Updates_to_Article to improve the article - if possible, can you review the proposed changes? I have a COI, and didn’t want to update the article directly. Thank you for your help! Cheergirl325 (talk) 15:37, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

Senior Wikipedians
editWikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older has been inactive for some time. The following three proposals may help invigorate this project.
- Change the name of this project to WikiProject Senior Wikipedians.[a]
- Open membership in this project to users who are at least 60 years of age and have made at least 50 edits in the past year.[b]
- Open supporting membership in this project to users who are less than 60 years old but have made at least 50 edits in the past year and support the goals of this project.[c]
Suggested goals for this project:
- To support collaboration and communication among members for the advancement and improvement of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.
- To encourage older people, retired people, and soon-to-be-retired people to participate in Wikipedia both for the advancement of the encyclopedia and for their own personal enjoyment.
- To encourage older people to share their experience and expertise for the improvement of Wikipedia.
- To encourage older users to use their experience and expertise to help younger and less experienced users.
- To encourage participation in local and regional Wikimedia events.
- To sponsor Wikipedia meetings and classes at places where older people gather.
- To advocate for the elimination of ageism and sexism in Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.
Notes
- ^ The current name of this project, WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older, is somewhat cumbersome and excludes participation by any users under the age of 70 years.
- ^ This current minimum age limit of this project is 70 years. A minimum age limit of 60 years should permit the participation of most retired users. The minimum activity level of 50 edits per year is arbitrary. A minimum activity level indicates continued interest. Members who do not meet the minimum activity level shall be moved to inactive status. Members who have died shall be moved to memorial status.
- ^ A new class of Supporting Members allows those users under 60 years to support the goals of the project. Users approaching the age of 60 years may wish to become supporting members in anticipation of reaching the minimum age limit for members.
Please add your suggestions for this project at Senior Wikipedians. Thank you, Buaidh talk e-mail 01:15, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
If you don't wish to receive any further information about Senior Wikipedians, please remove your username from our notice list. Thanks.
