Unclear writing in lesson 2
[edit source]Here: Dutch/Lesson 2#Inflection
I don't understand it here. First, using "in front of" and "behind" when describing the relative positions of words seems confusing to me. They could describe a word is either to left or to the right of another word, depending on who and when you ask. I propose using "before" for a word to the left of another word and "after" for a word to the right of another word (in writing systems read left-to-right, like Dutch): for example in the sentence "de rode auto", "rode" is before "auto" and "auto" is after "rode".
Moreover, in the sentence "Behind a copula (as predicate) this is true in Dutch as well:", I do not understand what "this" refers to. What is true here?
I suggest that someone who is more knowledgeable in Dutch than I am rewrite this section to be more clear.
Unrelated, but the Gesprek section English translations (on all pages) should be more literal, in my opinion.
But my overall experience with this book so far has been very good. This book has been tremendously helpful in my goal of learning Dutch. For this, I thank all who have contributed to this WikiBook. 2001:8F8:1C61:2AF:8E7E:F76C:6763:8720 (discuss) 00:04, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
