Draft:Kim Min-ji (singer)

  • Comment: Hi @AlexBw0524:! I appreciate the effort you have put into composing this article. The current issue is not with your editing, but rather that Minji herself does not have enough individual notability outside of NewJeans.
Sorry for not making my initial comments clearer. I saw that you tried to expand the Endorsements section about her modelling jobs. As DoubleGrazing had explained at the Help Desk, the new content is more like trivia and does not relate to her entertainment career as a K-pop idol. I would expect to see her solo works within the entertainment industry, such as solo television appearances or the release of solo singles. For instance, Danielle lent her voice to the Korean dub of The Little Mermaid. You may consider mentioning about Minji as a special MC for Music Bank.
However, I still believe her solo career is quite insignificant. So instead of fulfilling the notability guidelines for musicians, we may need to aim for satisfying WP:GNG, the general notability guidelines for biographies. This requires an abundance of secondary, independent, and reliable sources with significant coverage about Minji personally, rather than just as a member of her group. Upon reviewing the sources currently in the article, the J-14 and Lucy Jeong's South China Morning Post sources look promising, as they introduced and covered Minji's life independently. These sources are not yet fully utilized, for example, the SCMP source mentioned that Minji had resided in Canada, but this is not included in the article. Try to incorporate about 5 to 6 sources (in total) with this kind of independent coverage to clearly demonstrate her notability.
I also have some reservations about the placement of certain content. For instance, the Kalguksu controversy and advertisements for political campaigns may be better suited for a separate Personal Life section, rather than the Career section. (I have already regrouped those stuffs, so no worries about this part. See Tzuyu#Flag controversy if you want to learn how to handle such content in the future.) But the inline citations for awards and controversies still have the problem of REFBOMB. Try to limit citations to 2 to 3 per claim, and avoid directly using primary sources like Melon Music Awards and Billboard Japan, as well as unreliable sources like Times of India.
Simply put, you may consider adding some sources with independent coverage of Minji and tidying up the inline citations, the article should be close to being ready for mainspace. Keep up the good work and happy editing! Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 09:16, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

Kim Min-ji (Korean김민지; born 7 May 2004), also known mononymously as Minji, is a South Korean singer. Kim is a member of the South Korean girl group NewJeans, which debuted under ADOR on 22 July 2022.

Early life and education

[edit]

Kim Min-ji was born on 7 May 2004 in Chuncheon, Gangwon, South Korea as one of three children, with a younger sister and an older brother who attends Kyung Hee University, which she revealed while performing at a music festival hosted by the university.[1] During her elementary years, she learned English while studying abroad in Canada as a homestay transfer student.[2] Kim attended Hanlim Multi Art School, where she graduated in February 2023.[3] She declined to take the 2023 CSAT college entrance exams after graduating.[4]

Kim, during middle school, received many business cards from various entertainment agencies, including SM Entertainment.[2] She was a Source Music trainee before the company was acquired by Hybe Corporation in 2019.[5][6]

Career

[edit]

2021–2022: Pre-debut activities

[edit]

In July 2021, Kim made a cameo appearance in BTS's 2021 music video for "Permission to Dance", alongside group member Hanni.[7][5] Pre-debut, Kim was also known as "The Girl", the face of Hybe Corporation's 2019 Plus Global Auditions.[8]

2022–present: Debut with NewJeans and solo activities

Kim debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group NewJeans with the surprise-released music video for their debut single "Attention" on 22 July 2022, without any prior promotion or information on the group's lineup.[9][10] NewJeans quickly rose to widespread popularity with the success of their following singles: "Hype Boy", "OMG", and "Ditto", the latter of which featured lyrics written by Kim.[11][12] "Ditto" became NewJeans's first entry on Billboard Hot 100 and won Song of the Year at the MAMA Awards, the Melon Music Awards, the Golden Disc Awards, and the Asia Artist Awards.[13][14][15][16][17]

On 15 October 2022, Kim made an appearance as one of the special MC's at KCON Japan alongside Junki Kono of JO1 and Hwang Min-hyun of NU'EST.[18] In January 2023, she was announced as a special MC for KBS' Music Bank program for the January 20 and January 27 airings of the show, alongside actor Lee Chae-min.[19]

Endorsements

[edit]

Kim has topped the South Korean Brand Reputation rankings multiple times since her debut.[20] In February 2023, Chanel Korea announced that they had signed Kim as one of their brand ambassadors for the categories of beauty, fashion, and watches and jewelry. Kim is the first person to be named ambassador for all three categories at the same time.[21][2]

Since 2023, Kim has been the face of the Seoul Jazz Festival, appearing on magazines to promote the event. She appeared on the cover of W Korea's special edition for the 15th anniversary of the Seoul Jazz Festival as well as the cover of the W Korea special edition for the 2024 festival.[22][23]

Personal life

[edit]

Kim also appeared in a March 2024 video campaign for the South Korean National Election Commission broadcast on radio and other platforms to encourage younger generations to vote in the 22nd legislative election.[24]
