Rejected: Proposed deletion

[edit]

This page was proposed for deletion on the following grounds. "Military sub-units such as batteries are not regarded as sufficiently notable". The following arguments are in favor of keeping this article.

  • During the American Civil War, though regiment-sized artillery units were formed by the federal government and the individual states, the individual batteries (often lettered A through M, omitting J) served separately.
  • While a few batteries served in garrisons or remote outposts for the entire war, most batteries (such as 1st U.S. Artillery, Battery F) had a unique existence including serving in a significant number of battles.
  • There are existing articles for other sub-units of the 1st U.S. Artillery: See 1st U.S. Artillery, Battery E, 1st U.S. Artillery, Battery G, 1st U.S. Artillery, Battery I, and 1st U.S. Artillery, Battery K.
  • There are a large number of existing articles for other American Civil War batteries. See List of Illinois Civil War units#Artillery units. This is only an example. Other U.S. states have similar articles.
