Page Needs Restructured

[edit]

I'm quite surprised at the lack of information about Fishers. That's something I'll start working on later this week - chime in here if you disagree with any of my proposed changes.

I believe that the entire page needs restructuring and have looked at other Wikipedia pages for Towns and Cities. I suggest the following categories: History, Geography, Architecture, Law and Government, Demographics, Economy, Culture, and Infrastructure.

History should include: 19th Century (Fishers was founded in 1872), 20th Century, 21st Century.

Geography should include: Location, Climate.

Architecture: am torn about this category. Not sure whether to include it or not.

Law and Government should include: Town Council, Courts, Fire Protection, Law Enforcement Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Crime, Politics.

Demographics needs beefed up - after all - this "town" has grown tremendously over the past ten years.

Economy should include: Companies and Businesses.

Culture should include: Festivals, Performing Arts, Museums, Sports, Fairs, Media, Conventions, Recreation.

Infrastructure should include: Education, Transportation, Health Care, Utilities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kristinafh (talkcontribs) 17:55, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

question

[edit]

Isn't the United Artist Theater technichally in Indianapolis because it is on the South side of 96th Street?

Yes, you're right: [1]. I've removed mention of the theater and done some minor cleanup on that section. But the more I think about it, the more I think that the whole section is unencyclopedic--is it really notable that chain restaurants A, B, and C have locations in Fishers? Chuck 22:05, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The statement about Hamilton Southeastern Junior High School being racist is not NPOV. FDR 11:54 AM May 26, 2006 (UTC)

Fishers High School

[edit]

I removed the statement that Fishers High School was the first new high school in the state to open in 30 years, as it's patently untrue - Guerin High School in Noblesville opened in 2004. [2] It's possible that Fishers High was the first public high school in the state to open in 30 years, but I'll let someone else add that back in if they can find evidence to support it. Fishers has a lot of history but one of fishers biggest point in history is one time they had a big bar fight one person got shot and died. there even was a play about it my mom was in the play.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.220.109.49 (talk) 16:26, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Government Section

[edit]

There appears to be an editor opposed to NPOV information in re the city - town discussion. My suggestion is that if Reywas won't allow supported facts to be added to this discussion then the city - town debate information should be removed altogether.

The "annexation" information in this section is also biased and should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.220.168.40 (talk) 19:22, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Free Advertising?

[edit]

This article states:

"Fishers Banquet and Conference Center, the largest banquet hall in town, has been host to Michelle Obama, Robert Kennedy Jr., Ethel Kennedy and Max Kennedy.[citation needed]

"The Artists' Studio in Fishers is a community theater that produces many children's and family friendly shows. Ben and Ari's is a family owned mini-golf course, arcade, and duckpin bowling facility. Fishers is also home to the locally-owned Pinheads Entertainment Complex, which opened in August 2005 and received the Fishers Chamber of Commerce Pillar Award for Business of the Year in 2006.

"Fishers is home to many restaurants including the Nickel Plate Bar & Grill, The Ram, Casler's Kitchen and Bar, and Petersons. Fishers is also home to popular nightlife and live music destinations such as Britton Tavern located at State Road 37 at 141st St."

While Wiki is traditionally the home of poor research, it now also appears to be the home for free advertising. Hopefully, these firms have made substantial donations... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.164.201 (talk) 11:57, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, a two and a half years later, I came along and removed enough puffery from the article to fill a large size hall. I wonder if the Banquet & Conference center would store all those useless words for me? I will bet their business drops off after losing their free Wikipedia advertising. Livability.com

[edit]

While finding independent cites for the award list, I found that links to livability.com are apparently blacklisted. The town does appear on their "Top 10 Golf Cities" list as #2. I left the award there, un-cited; someone else can delete it or do whatever they think best. JeffLicquia (talk) 16:43, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
