Trees planted in 1997 in the panoramic illustration: a pair of Bald Cypress, Taxodium distichum, at the northwest end and — are they?— three Black Willow, Salix nigra at the northeast end.--Wetman (talk) 00:51, 11 August 2008 (UTC) During world war II the central park great lawn contained a large number of U S Army gun emplacements.
