Talk:Image editing

Apparently, nobody thought image editing was worthy of discussion ;-). Root4(one)
There is some discussion on the former name of this page Talk:digital image editing. Oicumayberight 02:33, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

clean up

[edit]

I've added a {{for}} template by way of a more prominent see also to the top of the page, as it's extremely easy to find this page when you might have been looking for Photo editing. I've left a message there arguing for its redirecting to Image manipulation, instead of the other way round, to overcome this confusion.
I see this article is tagged for a clean up, but there's no note nor discussion on the issue. I think the page is ok, just needs shaking up into a more logical order (most common/ better-known editing first, for example) and maybe a bit more inline referencing. It's quite an important page, a good reference for WP:FPC and its criteria and is (another one) on my list of things to do; if there's any comments or ideas, speak up! mikaultalk 09:41, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

to anyone with an interest in how the practice of photo editing is portrayed

[edit]

There is a small group of article manipulators who seem to think that photo manipulation better describes photo editing than image editing. I don't have to tell you the negative implications that are associated with the word manipulation. By directing the term "photo editing" to that article, it implies that every form of photo editing is a form of manipulation. So if you don't want to feel guilty for using photoshop, I encourage you to join the debate. Oicumayberight 21:52, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On this note, I suggest the addition of a 'controversy" section on this, or another article to discuss the debate between whether or not edited images have the same artistic merit as those which are created by means of a camera and darkroom. --Loser078 (talk) 06:10, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Section on digital data compression

[edit]

Is this section needed in this article? It mostly talks about the mechanics of photo compression, but not actually image editing or the relevance of photo compression to image editing. -PretentiousSnot (talk) 20:12, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Differences between image editing and image processing?

[edit]

Can someone explain to me what the great difference is between image editing and image processing, please? --Kri (talk) 21:43, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merging this article with Image processing (suggestion)

[edit]

No one seems to know what the difference is between image editing and image processing, at least no one has answered to my previous topic (see above). Now we have two articles about approximately the same thing. Maybe it would be a good idea to merge the two together; this article into Image processing (or vice versa, depending on which title is more accurate), if it is not too much work? Please leave any thoughts and ideas about the suggestion here. --Kri (talk) 13:58, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I understand, formally ...
Editing is the process of selecting the best images from a set.
Post-processing is the process of making those images look better.
In practice, post-processing is often called editing also. 2A02:A464:B0E5:1:C595:F4D5:EDC7:6316 (talk) 20:16, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As of 2019, the articles have not been merged. The article here is focused more on the esthetic effects, while the other article has more of a focus on the mathematical processing behind some of the effects. Reify-tech (talk) 18:08, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page layout needs improvement

[edit]

For an article on image editing, the page layout is rather poor, with a hodgepodge of different image formatting and layouts. I suggest consistent use of Template:Gallery for systematic comparison of before/after images, and consistent sizing of the images per MOS:IMGSIZE. Misspelled word in image caption

[edit]

It's hard to see because of black type on green background (grass) but in top left corner of the upper frame of the image illustrating Bokeh effect, the word "Before" is misspelled. Can anything be done? NedFausa (talk) 00:12, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@NedFausa: Done. -- WikiPedant (talk) 20:41, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiPedant: Thanks! I couldn't see the change until I did an Empty Cache and Hard Reload in my Chrome browser, but now it shows up fine. NedFausa (talk) 21:43, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stamp Clone Tool

[edit]

Image after stamp tool processed? I'm afraid it's not very clear what part of the image has been edited? 78.144.219.53 (talk) 15:14, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

New Section Content: Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are increasingly transforming the field of image editing, enabling advanced capabilities that were previously difficult or impossible to achieve. The integration of these technologies has led to significant innovations in several areas:

=== Automated Photo Enhancement ===

AI-driven tools can automatically adjust photo attributes such as brightness, contrast, and color balance with high precision. These tools often use deep learning algorithms trained on large datasets to recognize and apply optimal adjustments based on the content of the image.

=== Content-Aware Editing ===

Content-aware editing utilizes AI to intelligently modify images by understanding the context and content within them. This includes tools for object removal, background replacement, and inpainting, where the software can seamlessly fill in missing parts of an image by analyzing surrounding pixels.

=== Deepfake Technology ===

Deepfake technology involves using generative adversarial networks (GANs) to create highly realistic but synthetic images and videos. While often controversial due to ethical implications, deepfakes demonstrate the powerful capabilities of AI in creating and altering visual content.

=== Style Transfer and Artistic Effects ===

AI allows for style transfer, where the aesthetic of one image can be applied to another, enabling the creation of artistic effects and visual styles that mimic famous art pieces or specific visual themes. This is accomplished through neural networks that can learn and replicate complex visual styles.

=== Real-time Image Processing ===

Advancements in AI enable real-time image processing and enhancement in applications such as video calls and streaming, where adjustments and improvements can be made instantaneously without noticeable latency.

=== Impact and Implications ===

The rise of AI in image editing is democratizing access to powerful editing tools, making sophisticated image manipulation accessible to a broader audience. However, it also raises ethical and legal questions regarding the authenticity of images and the potential for misuse in misinformation and privacy invasion.
