Merger proposal

[edit]

Any Bengali-speaker will be equally familiar with the term boli kusti, in other words kushti or pehlwani. This is yet another nationalistic attempt at fabricating a uniquely Bangladeshi martial art as if Bangladeshi and Indian wrestling are any different. Furthermore, boli khela was not created to fight against the British but existed long before colonization. Who would seriously believe that the freedom fighters would be wrestling against British soldiers armed with guns? Morinae (talk) 13:25, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose merging - Boli khela is a uniqe and old traditional game in Bangladesh. It has no relation with kushti or pehlwani. - Rahat | Message 16:34, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The link from Banglapedia says boli khela was created during the Mughal period. What originated in Chittagong is the Jabbar-e Boli Khela competition, which is not a separate style but a tournament. Even if you want to retain a separate article, it is a gross exaggeration to say it has "no relation" to kusti. To make a comparison, muay Thai, pradal serey, tomoi, and other Southeast Asian kickboxing styles are essentially the same but have separate articles. Nevertheless, their close similarity is acknowledged in the articles. No boli khela wrestler would deny that he is practicing kusti. To pretend they are totally different with no relation defies logic. And the merge tag should not be removed until the discussion on merging is closed. There is nothing to be implied from the sport's inception in the Mughal period. The article clearly says "a folk wrestling game unique to Chittagong.", that's enough to prove that Boli Khela is a separate wrestling sport, it may have some relation with Kusti but that doesn't really pose any objection in having a separate article for Boli Khela. Moreover, Boli Khela has an article in an encyclopedia (Banglapedia), this alone proves that it is surely an encyclopedic and notable topic to have a separate article in Wikipedia. --Zayeem (talk) 12:40, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
