Questionable line..

"They were not part of the New York elite because they were Catholic, not Protestant, nor were they long established in the United States."

If this is true, and there were no other reasons, why can one easily find examples that run counter to this statement? Thomas Fortune Ryan was a Catholic and part of the New York elite, although his family had been long established in the US. But Arthur Leary was not from an established family and was also a Catholic. Leary's prominence in New York society seems to have been the result of his father's friendship with William Backhouse Astor.

Still, uninformed Wiki editors should tread carefully before making unsubstantiated claims. Jonathan f1 (talk) 20:00, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
