Tense

[edit]

Should nearly everything here be put in the past tense since merb isn't maintained anymore? A bigger deal needs to be made of the Rails 3 merge — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaffachief (talkcontribs) 14:14, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Changes and Improvements

[edit]

MERB is written in Erlang, not Ruby ! I have chosen not to change it, to allow the original editor to look at it. Anyone else is free to do so, because its a bit embarrassing for Wikipedia since so many people are publishing incorrect info from this reference. uaflyer (talk) 16:58, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Engineyard wrote MERB ! Pickup the phone, call Engineyard, or read the presentations referenced. MERB is written in Erlang and this will need to be escalated uaflyer (talk) 20:45, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whoooops, I edited this page instead of Czech one. Very, very sorry! Botanicus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.115.242.84 (talk) 02:03, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MERB is totally written in Erlang. Notice the E? MERB stands for Mongrel ERlang RuBy. Get it? It runs in Erlang over Mongrel and SERVES Ruby. Jesus people. Do your research. Engineyard wrote MERB because Rails can't scale and they had to use Erlang to do it. Everybody knows that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.85.5.72 (talk) 17:34, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not only is Merb definitely written in Ruby, it is also most certainly notable, at the very least within the ruby community, and i would argue for software development at large (though many may not know it, but hey, that's what education and encyclopedias are about). If you're looking for secondary sources a simple google search turns up a plethora of content:

Frankly it's a bit embarrassing that this article was flagged for notability at all. Much of the ruby world communicates through blog postings, and even in spite of that there are a variety of sources which i've identified (since i'm trying to skew away from blog posts). Additionally, it should not be assumed that merb is primarily notable for merging with Ruby on Rails, both because of the fact that Merb continues as a project independent of Ruby on Rails, as well as the fact that the Merb project was instrumental in lending weight and promotion to several endeavors in the ruby community, such as Rack_(web_server_interface), Datamapper, and jQuery (though jQuery didn't need support in general, Ruby on Rails was designed to interoperate specifically with Prototype an alternative JS library.)
