Pictures

[edit]

There's more pictures of the monument available on Commons. In particular, I've just uploaded File:Nereid Monument, British Museum.jpg which gives a better overview of it than the current lead picture, but as it would be facing out from the article I'm not sure whether it's worth swapping them over or not. I don't know. It is a much better picture as you say, showing the lower podium frieze, and with such good resolution that anyone who clicks through can actually make out what is happening on the friezes and the pediment. And so I have substituted it. I think it does look a bit odd facing out of the page in the lead. If others think it looks too odd, we can always switch back.
Otherwise, I had the mad idea of not giving an overview in the lead, but putting the new picture on the left at the beginning of "Description", and sticking a left-facing (in a headless sort of way) nereid up top. For the time being this is in my sandbox. Any thoughts? Grafen (talk) 23:13, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
