Ponta Delgada (Azores)Ponta Delgada – The city of Ponta Delgada on São Miguel is by far the most noteworthy of all the ponta Delgadas and most likely to be the one searched for here on Wikipedia. Just like other homonymous cities on wiki (Madrid and Madrid, Alabama; Lisbon and Lisbon, Florida) this page should simply be "Ponta Delgada" (which redirects to this page already). A link to a Disambiguation page is already on the top of the page and it falls inline with the convention demonstrated when a place name is popular but only one holds high recognition. • Oppose - As much as I support your motivations, I feel that maintaining the name dis-ambiguous, or qualified, is the better option. With all do respect, your examples are noteworthy, but Ponta Delgada is not on par with those cities: there might exist an equal number of people looking for other variants of Ponta Delgada/Punta Delgada then their could be for Lisbon or Madrid. The point that it "is by far the most noteworthy" is subjective statement. Yet, I am willing concede on this if there is reasoned support within the confines of the "move" process. I should also note that "Ponta Delgada" was qualified to "Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island" then "Ponta Delgada Municipality" before arriving at this point: there is "a lot of water underneath the bridge" on this subject.ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 17:49, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The current situation (Ponta Delgada redirecting to Ponta Delgada (Azores)) is contrary to MOS and not sustainable, thus at that title should either be the dab page or the capital of Azores. I say the latter: true, it is not Madrid or Lisbon, but it is by far the most renowned of the alternatives, thus WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Every single item of first 100 Ghits refers to the capital of Azores [1]. Need I even count pageviews? No such user (talk) 09:39, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per No such user. The base name already redirects here and has for over 3 years; anyone typing that in is coming here already. A base title shouldn't redirect to one with a parentheses. The disambiguation is also fundamentally bad, as Ponta Delgada, Santa Cruz das Flores is also in the Azores. A cursory look at Google Books suggests this is indeed the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the term. "Ponta Delgada" "San Miguel" returns 6,380 Google Books hits, compared to 1,190 for "Ponta Delgada" "Santa Cruz das Flores", 1080 for "Ponta Delgada" "Sao Vicente", and 301 for "Ponta Delgada" soccer. Additionally, most of the 42,300 hits for "Ponta Delgada" Azores appear to intend this town. Beyond the Google Books hits, this Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores and is substantially larger than either the parish on Flores or the one in São Vicente, which further supports the PRIMARYTOPIC claim.--Cúchullain t/c 04:16, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as the primary topic of the title as represented in sources, and based on the history and population, as the most historically significant location by this name. The other options are a district that contains this location, and is therefore not truly ambiguous to it; two much smaller towns, and a defunct soccer team which is not referred to by this title without qualifiers (originally being called "Fall River Ponta Delgada", and then "Ponta Delgada Soccer Club"). bd2412 T 20:38, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
