Support for claim of being revered

[edit]

Somebody tagged the description of Christgau as "revered", describing this as a peacock word. This use of the word seems to be justified by the sources, to wit:

They should be in the article. (CC) Tbhotch 00:00, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Teflon Peter Christ: - "Among the most well-known, revered, and influential music critics" - even if it's sourced, it's just syrupy and excessive. It hinges on becoming POV editing - we are not trying to promote Christgau, just demonstrate who he is and what his influence is. I took out 'revered' because I think 'influential' serves the same purpose, even if it's not a synonym. Having influence implies that his work is significant and that his peers view him highly enough to be influenced by his work. Look at, for example, the second sentence of The Beatles. You could add a lot more adjectives, but it's kept down to them being the most influential and integral to x. I just don't think throwing a bunch of extra adjectives into the lead helps the article, and again, it makes it seem like we are promoting him. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 15:24, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
