While Rutland claims to be the geographical center of Massachusetts, there is no evidence that this is true.

A 1964 USGS publication places the geographic center in the "North Part of City of Worcester."^[1]

An open source software project places the geographic center (centroid of the land border, center of mass/gravity) in an Audubon park in the Southern Worcester.^[2]

I don't agree with the methods used in that github link, there are more accurate ways to compute a centroid, but I do agree that there is no evidence of Rutland being the center. My own calculation puts it about 10 miles SE in downtown Worcester (-71.81253, 42.26029), but I didn't include ocean territory of Massachusetts so in reality the centroid should be even a bit further to the east.
