Copy editing

[edit]

Should we do a copy edit of this article? It seems like context has been copied over from the Muppet Wiki. --TheLennyGriffinFan1994 (talk) 22:52, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usernamekiran, it looks like this version from May 29, to which you are the only editor to have contributed, is very much a copy of this version of the Muppet Wiki page, dated May 28. Do you have an explanation for this apparent copying? I do not see any CC-BY-SA licensing statement in the en.WP article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:56, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
oh poopy. Give me a few minutes please. —usernamekiran (talk) 14:22, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@TheLennyGriffinFan1994 and Jonesey95: Hello. I had asked about the copying to Dianaa, and she had replied that it was okay if we provide the proper attribution special:diff/959145009. I am completely taken aback to find out that I havent done that (previously I have copied content from public domain, and attributed properly). I am still confused as to how I did not do that. Also as it turns out, I didnt respond/thank Dianaa either. Till I saw Jonesey's message, I was under the impression that I have already done it. I apologise for the blunder. I tried to edit the content for a very long time, but I couldnt. Thats why I also recently requested a CE at GOCE (special:diff/964560759). What can we/I do now? I apologise again. —usernamekiran (talk) 14:34, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As Diannaa wrote: leave an attribution template or statement on the page itself. There's a template {{cc-notice}} or you can leave a notice at the bottom of the page like I did here. If you do that, and you check all of the text that you copied to ensure that it is backed up by sources, I think you'll be OK. Please post back here when you have done both. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:14, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! That helped a lot. --TheLennyGriffinFan1994 (talk) 18:32, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @TheLennyGriffinFan1994: Thanks a lot mate. If I would have come online earlier, I would have done it too :)
@Jonesey95: I just saw you comment. You didnt have to use such langugage. Your comment looks polite, but it also looks a little condescending, and a lot bully-ish. You should choose your words carefully. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:56, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please help me communicate better. I re-read both of my statements, and they look factual, neutral, and WP:AGF to me. How would you have written them instead? Thanks for any help you can provide. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:48, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As I said in my previous comment, your comment looks polite. Maybe it was not your intention to be bossy/bully-ish when you said Please post back here when you have done both. But it looks that way. I apologise for previous comment as well. I should have chosen better words too, but I was a little offended and commented in the heat of the moment; resulting a statement which looks like blatant accusation. When you said "post back here when you have done both", it sounded like you were giving out orders, and didnt trust my competency. But as you said, you were trying to be factual. Unintentionally, you sounded a little bossy; and on my part, I read too much into the text. I shouldnt have done that. I hope I didnt hurt your feelings. —usernamekiran (talk) 20:02, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your honest and helpful feedback. It looks like I should have explained my reasoning better, instead of just bossing you around. The reason behind my "please post back here when you have done both" is that you had potentially violated Wikipedia's copyright policy, which would have been a serious problem, and possibly added statements to an article without checking the sources, which would violate Wikipedia's verifiability policy. By doing both of the things that I recommended, you would confirm that you copied the material from the Muppet Wiki in accordance with the copyright policy of both Wikipedia and the Muppet Wiki, and that you had verified the statements that you had added to the article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:44, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
