Nuclear weapons

[edit]

The thing about nuclear weapons sounded a little politically motivated, so I made it more neutral sounding by adding a comment about how difficult it would be to keep such a thing secret from the Japanese government when they jointly run the base with the US government.Worldruler20 (talk) 18:49, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The thing about nuclear weapons was admittedly unsubstantiated, not specifically related to Yokosuka, but to US Bases in general, and seemed to be no more than wild speculation, so I deleted it.

Pronunciation

Is there any chance someone with some expertise in the matter could put an International_Phonetic_Alphabet spelling on the page?

Cave Survey

[edit]

Who conducted this survey of caves? How would someone acquire it? The information in the article isn't clear on why this was done or about citing the information.

--Gloriamarie 19:39, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it was the US Army Corps of Engineers, but I don't have a citation for that. Unfortunately there is no museum on the base, so finding detailed historical information about the place is extremely difficult. As for acquiring maps of the caves, you'd probably have to go to either the base public works office, or base security, and both of those offices would most likely assume that you're just interested in spelunking, which is strictly forbidden, due to the dangerous instability of the caves (collapses are frequent, as made evident by the numerous tunnel entrances which have spilled out onto the road). So if you asked to see the maps they'd probably just look at you like you're retarded and say no.

Yokosuka, KanagawaYokosuka – Most other topics listed on the disambiguation page are WP:PTMs so it is rare to refer to them as just "Yokosuka" without context. Hence, the city is likely the WP:PTOPIC for "Yokosuka". feminist (talk) 12:38, 26 September 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 19:12, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry but that is not how MOS:JPPLACE is written: "For cities, use the form [[{city-name}, {prefecture-name}]]; for example, Mishima, Shizuoka. ". The phrase "when disambiguation is required" is with respect to only designated cities. The next sentence in MOS:JPPLACE states: "Exception: For designated cities, use [[{city-name}]] without appending the prefecture unless disambiguation from another city or prefecture is necessary." --MChew (talk) 08:56, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
“Not required” is a very weak assertion. Many good things are not required. Why does MOS:JPPLACE say something that appears at odds with the consistency seen in the category? —SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:08, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
See my response at another discussion. If other articles do not follow the MOS guideline, they should be moved to comply with the guideline. We should not be perpetuating a wrong just because other articles are wrong as well. feminist (talk) 09:11, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes guidelines get written by a few not with consensus. I suspect this, but haven’t had time to check. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:27, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
