Sarah Aurélia Felicia Florencia Maricela Guerrero (born March 15, 2000), known as Sarah Rodríguez, is a Afro-Colombian/Afro-Panamanian/Spanish Actress, Choreographer, Director, Screenwriter and Producer.

She began her career as a child actress and backup dancer in 2010. She would appear in shows like Big Time Rush, How to Rock and Once Upon a Time.

Rodríguez achieved EGOT status in 2022. Time included Rodríguez on its list of 100 most influential people in the world in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Early life

Sarah Aurelia Felicia Florencia Maricela Guerrero was born on March 15, 2000, in Toledo, Castilla–La Mancha, Spain, to an Afro-Colombian mother, who before her passing, work as a medical doctor, and an Afro-Panamanian/Spanish father, who has worked in the Armed forces for more than 35 years. She has fourteen siblings, five of them being step-siblings and is of Dominican, Mexican, Singaporean and Greek descent.

Rodríguez frequently moved growing up, due to her father serving in the Armed forces. Between age five and fifthteen, she lived in seven counties and switched schools up to three times per year. The constant relocating during her childhood made her an introverted child and struggled to make new friends.

Rodríguez began dancing at the age of two and has been a competitive dancer since the age of four. Rodríguez started training Brazilian jiu-jitsu at age four. She was promoted to Red 9–10 belt in the sport in February 2019 and is a black belt under Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu. She has practiced in kickboxing, taekwondo, kung-fu and karate.

Career

2010-2013: Early Roles and career beginning

Rodríguez began her career by appearing in commercials and print advertisements, for brands like Macy's, Coca-Cola, Pizza Hut and Wendy's.

In 2010, Rodríguez began posting cover songs under the name Sarah Maricela on YouTube. Covering songs by artists like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Cher, Beyoncé and Whitney Houston. In 2011, she began releasing her own music, while continuing to do covers.

Rodríguez made her acting debut in 2011, portraying Callie, True’s fashion-savvy co-worker, on the Nickelodeon teen sitcom True Jackson, VP. She would go on to make guest appearances in shows such as Big Time Rush and Once Upon a Time.

In 2012, Rodríguez starred in the Nickelodeon sitcom How to Rock, portraying Stevie Baskara, Gravity 5's tough bass player. The show ran for one season containing 25 episodes. The series is based on the 2011 book, How to Rock Braces and Glasses by Meg Haston.

2016-2021: Breakthrough and critical acclaimed roles

In July 2017, Rodríguez began starring in the Netflix drama series Ozark, portraying Ruth Langmore, a young woman who is part of a local family of petty criminals. Her portrayal of the character earned her critical acclaim and three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

In October 2018, Rodríguez joined the cast of Rian Johnson murder mystery Knives Out, portraying Marta Cabrera, Harlan Thrombey caregiver. The film was a major box office success, with Rodríguez's performance earning her critical acclaim.

On April 25, 2019, it was announced that Rodríguez had joined the cast of No Time to Die, the 25th James Bond film. Rodríguez portrayed the role of Paloma, a CIA agent who assisted Bond. On January 14, 2020, Rodríguez was announced as the performer of the title track for the film, written and produced alongside Finneas O'Connell. With this announcement, Rodríguez became the youngest artist to write and perform a James Bond theme song.

2021-present: Current Work

Rodríguez starred as Dolores Madrigal, Mirabel's cousin, who has super-hearing, in the Disney Animated Encanto.

In April 2019, it was announced that Rodríguez had joined the cast of Lila Neugebauer's independent drama Causeway, portraying Lynsey, a US soldier suffering from a brain injury. Rodríguez also produced the film under her company Equinox Productions, which she had formed in September 2017.

Upcoming projects

In September 2022, it was announced that Rodríguez had joined the cast of the action thriller film Carry-On, portraying Nora. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, written by T.J. Fixman and Michael Green.

Rodríguez is set to star in the drama film On Swift Horses. The film was directed by Daniel Minahan, with Bryce Kass adapting the script from the novel by Shannon Pufahl of the same name.

Rodríguez is set to star in the drama film The Last Showgirl, which centers around a seasoned showgirl, who must plan her future after the show closes abruptly. The film was directed by Gia Coppola and written by Kate Gersten.

Personal Life

Rodríguez has two golden retrievers named Charlie and Daisy, whom she adopted from an animal shelter in Alicante, Spain in the spring 2018. In May 2022, Rodríguez dogs had puppies, three females and five males. Most of the puppies were either given to family members or trained to help aid or assist an individual with a disability. In 2023, her dog Charlie was put down after a lump of cancer was found near his heart.

Rodríguez is the godmother to Beckham Feuerstein (Born August 13, 2021), son of rapper NF and Bridgette Doremus and Eloise Grainge (Born May 20, 2024), daughter of model Sofia Richie and music executive Elliot Grainge.

Citizenship and homes

In 2011, Rodríguez became a naturalized citizen of the United States, while retaining her Spanish citizenship. Rodríguez obtains Colombian citizenship through her late mother. In 2019, Rodríguez became a naturalized citizen of Peru. As of May 2023, Rodríguez resided in Spain, alongside her two kids.

Rodríguez purchased a 2000-square-foot house in Toledo, Spain, in January 2020. In November 2022, it was reported that she sold the house for 4.7 million dollars. Rodríguez had previously owned a house in Long Beach, California, that she would sell for approximately 17,5 million dollars in February 2020.

Personal Struggles

Rodríguez has been open about her struggles with Anxiety, Trust issues, Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), Depression, and an Eating disorder. She began pursuing therapy in her early teen years and also spent time in treatment facilities. In May 2021, she revealed she has bipolar disorder.

Rodríguez was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at age fifteen, upon having witnessed the murder of her best friend.

Education

Rodríguez started High School at age 10, at Ocean City High School in New Jersey. After graduating, Rodríguez indrolled at Autonomous University of Barcelona, where she would get a double Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Law, graduating at 19 at the top of her class.

Rodríguez has been fluent in sign languages since age twelve.

Relationship and children

Rodríguez began dating Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes in October 2016, whom she met through mutual friends. In December 2017, it was announced they had separated.

Rodríguez dated Australian musician Calum Hood between September 2019 and May 2020. The relationship was made public when pictures of them together at a gathering with friends in February 2020 was leaked in January 2022.

In May 2023, Rodríguez announced that she had given birth to twins (a boy and a girl) two years prior via an instagram post. The post became among the most-liked Instagram posts of all time. Following the announcement and lots of speculation about who the father was, Rodríguez clarified that the father was a childhood friend of hers, but that he had sadly passed away while she was still pregnant.
